Save Your Teeth Save Your Health Paleo Quick Tip of the Day podcast

Your dental health is at least as important for your overall quality of lifestyle and health as is the health of your organs, your cardiovascular system, or your musculature.  With a healthy and inflammation-free set of teeth and gums, your mouth will be a source of strength, a means to convey high quality nutrition into your body.

The problem is that nowadays, the vast majority of people have hugely deteriorating, plaque covered teeth by a quite early age.  In fact, it is often stated the over 75% of Americans have gingivitis, which means that their teeth are badly infected, and will probably not last them throughout their lives.

Teeth and gums that are so inflamed will develop pockets of pus beneath the gum line.  This can result in receding gums, bleeding, and eventual tooth decay and loss.  Pain and extreme expense are the result of this occurrence, along with huge expense.  Also, this inflammation spreads throughout the entire body, vastly increasing the risk of hearth disease, along with other circulatory diseases.

In addition, as people age and lose their teeth, and find it more and more painful to chew, they avoid many nutritious, hard to chew foods, and switch more and more into eating soft fruits and pastries- bad, inflammatory foods that further fuel the decline of their health.

The solution is quite simple: eat a paleo type of diet!  This means avoiding grains and sugars for the most part.  Grains not only turn to sugar right in your mouth, they also tend to stick and coat your mouth with the damaging plaque that erodes tooth enamel.  Contrarily, eating a diet of good meats, real fats, (avoid vegetable oils!), and other foods such as vegetables and some fruits will leave your mouth undamaged.  Also, they will provide ample nutrition so that your own body can remineralize your teeth as you go, keeping your teeth forever strong and vital.

Also, eating fermented vegetables will do the opposite of grains in your mouth, since the beneficial microbes in them will remain in your mouth, crowding out the undesirable types that cause damage and decay.  Of course, brushing before bed, preferably with a Sonicate type of electric toothbrush will help immensely, as well.  But remember, out paleolithic ancestors had good lifetime teeth without brushing at all, since they only had good, real foods to eat!

But today, brushing is prudent, and definitely helpful.  Just use a light touch (don’t bear down), and do not use commercial toothpastes with their assorted harmful chemicals- a mix of sea salt and baking soda is what I use, and it is not only cheap, but it works wonderfully.  Ironically, the latest research shows that flossing actually does more harm than good, by pushing pockets of inflammation further into the gums.  So, don’t floss!

There are two more things you can do instead, however, that are far more effective-

1. Pull coconut oil between your teeth, swishing it around your mouth as you shower.  Do it for about 15 minutes a day, and you will vastly improve the health of your mouth, as the anti-bacterial power of the coconut oil literally smothers and bad bacteria in your mouth, which you later spit out, leaving you with a fresh, clean, healthy mouth!

2. If you do have some gingivitis or infection in your gums, there is a very effective and cheap fix- get some white oak bark powder.  I got some online for about $3.50, postpaid.  I had a small area that was infected towards the back of my jaw, right by my right rear molar.  It had been there, not advancing, but not retreating, for years.
For a couple of weeks, I put a small pinch of the white oak powder between my cheek and the gum line, much as guys do with the harmful habit of chewing tobacco, after I had brushed before bed.  The powder acts as an astringent, and it literally draws out the infection through the action of the tannins within it.
It is amazing- within two weeks my gums were totally healthy!  Now, I have added a sprinkling of the white oak bark powder to my sea salt and baking soda toothpowder, just to further protect my precious tooth health.  I suggest you do and do likewise.

Fake Health News

The big thing now is: Fake News. On the political front, this is a huge problem, as our major media has capitulated almost entirely to the liberal side, and only broadcasts and prints stories that advance their own particular left wing agenda. Facts be damned!
Fortunately, now we have the internet, and we can actually fact check what is being broadcast to us. We also have Fox news, which really is “Fair and Balanced”, as they advertise, and talk radio to tell us the other side, the real news.
Fake Medical and Health news is just as real of a phenomenon, and keeps most of us totally in the dark as it concerns our health and well-being! As a paleo practitioner, you are probably becoming aware of this, if you don’t know it already. Ironically, the vast majority of traditional medical doctors dismiss the paleo lifestyle and diet completely; and do so without reading the recent research on the subject, the clinical trials, or anything else- just like those who follow the New York Times follow its dictates blindly, like lemmings, so too do most medical doctors, nurses, and everyone else follow 40 year old medical science just as blindly.
Most heart procedures are not only incredibly expensive and dangerous, but they don’t really work as advertised. Only in a life threatening situation, where the patient has already had a heart attack are they helpful at all! As a preventive measure, for instance when the doctor’s “tests” lead him to pronounce that ‘Your arteries are 95% blocked,’ or some such statement, and then he says you need a stent to prop your arteries open. Well, that’s not how it works.
If you go through with this incredibly dangerous procedure, and it you live through it, the benefits are very temporary. Your arteries will fill right back up, narrowing again. It’s kind of like bailing out a leaking boat, without first fixing the leak that the water is pouring in!
You need to fix your lifestyle and diet- go paleo, in other words, and heal your body from the inside out- the body heals itself, not the physician.

This goes for the drugs everyone is being sold- the statin drugs are toxic drugs with all kinds of side effects, and they are pushed to sell in the many billions of dollars. They are supposed to help control cholesterol, when it has been overwhelmingly shown that high cholesterol is not a problem for the vast majority. The drug sales just make the pharmaceutical companies, and the medical clinics, lots and lots of money!
Even in small ways, you can avoid toxic drugs like aspirin and Tylenos, ibuprofen and all the other NSAID drugs that perforate your gut lining (just as does wheat!), and make you susceptible to all of the autoimmune diseases that are destroying our whole population. Take white willow bark if you need to treat pain; not only is it very effective, it is actually good for you- artificial aspirin is actually quite harmful, since it is an isolation of the acetylsalicylic acid that is one component of the white willow bark. If you take the whole product, instead of the chemically produced version, it is far gentler on your stomach and intestines, and actually a real food type of product.
The main takeaway is to not take any drugs. Really- legal or illegal- they all have really bad side effects. ALL.
And clean up your diet, getting rid of the grains and sugars, and the processed foods. Eat real, God-made foods, like pastured meats, dairy and eggs. LOTS of green veggies- a green smoothie is very helpful in this regard. Exercise daily, including lots of stretching, and do not run long distances or lift heavy weights- both will wear out your joints.
Do bodyweight, and especially the Perfectly Paleo Exercise of virtual resistance exercise! Walk barefoot, and rebound daily as part of your morning routine. Sleep 8-9 hours per night. Use intermittent fasting on a regular basis, practice not eating skipping supper, or breakfast, or both.
That’s it, really- just by doing those very simple, and actually liberating things, you will rebuild your health, and free yourself from dependency on drugs, clinics and doctors. Think about it: things are often made needlessly complex so that we rely upon others, rather than on ourselves- and if we do that, those very people benefit by taking our money!
Forget Fake News, and especially Fake Medical News! Go paleo, be an ancestral human who thinks for him or herself! You will be healthy, and happy and mentally well-adjusted- not a liberal sheep that does what he is told, by those who benefit by having him as a “useful idiot”, as these types were referred to by Communist leaders.

Work on Your Waist

Waistline work is not about vanity. Although it will do more to improve your appearance than anything else you can do, the more important thing is that it will dramatically improve your health.
Having a lean, ripped midsection, from all viewing angles, is a premiere indicator of a healthy body. It means you will have a healthy, vibrant spine and back, the abdominal muscles are critical to support your interior organs and digestion, and the whole supporting musculature of a well-developed ab structure is protective of hernias, and even from blows to the body.
In fact, most of us do this unconsciously: we judge a person’s health and fitness mainly on their waistlines. It’s not that we do it purposely, it’s just that our subconscious mind, just as the instincts of an animal will do, can tell what is healthy and what is not. It would be crucial, this telltale sign, to tell an animal who would make a good mate, and by the same token who would make good prey- a creature that is weak and defenseless versus vibrant with health and vitality!
So- you want a strong, vibrant, health-aura promoting waist- how can you achieve it?
First, eat a paleo sort of diet- lowish carbs, very little sugar, no bread, pasta, cereals, or processed foods. That will take care of any fat that is coating your abs, (and the rest of your body). Really. And it actually works pretty quickly, too.
But the exercise is just as, and perhaps more important for your health! Forget crunches and suchlike nonsense- you want to work all of your core muscles, not isolate one little area. The exercises I recommend will surprise you, probably, since I have seen recommendations for some of the most complicated, ridiculous “ab” exercises, and I’m sure you have to. These are simple, straight-forward, and all you need:
Straight legged sit ups- do these on your living room floor. I lay down a yoga mat for all of my stuff, as I exercise first thing each morning. Lie flat, hands behind head, just as I hope you did in grade school. Curl upwards from the waist, and try to touch your elbows with each rep to your knees. Keep your legs straight out in front of you- this is key! It makes the exercise far harder, and so much more productive. Also, do not anchor your feet under anything- by lifting your upper body without having a lever propped beneath an anchor is crucial.
This one exercise is so beneficial, that it is worth mastering. At first, you may only manage a few- that’s fine. Just keep adding reps slowly, eventually you will be able to crank out 30 or more. Do multiple sets, even if your sets are only 5!
Isometrics- Do these every single day! FLEX your entire body, starting with your calves and then entire legs, then upwards through your body all the way up to your neck. Flex as hard as you can, and hold for 5 seconds. Pretend you are Arnold in a bodybuilding competition! Relax, then repeat, and hold for 6 seconds. Relax, and then hold for 7 seconds. You are now done, and have not only flexed and toned your abs, but every single muscle in your body!
This exercise is one to do religiously, and it can be done several times in the day. It not only works your entire body with not stress or injury, it also controls blood pressure. Really!
Planks- Side planks are the ones you want- the setups take care of all but the lateral obliques. Lie on your left side on the floor, and raise up on your left elbow. Pulse, up and down, with your hips for reps. This is much more effective than just holding for time. Lie on your right side, and do the same.
I like to alternate with the ab roller, but that is an optional exercise.
Those are really all you need for rock hard, healthy, killer abs! Really. Of course, if you are doing lots of pushups as I recommend, those are also a wonderful ab exercise as well as an upper body one. Get Fat and Sick with Vegetable Oils - Paleo Quick tip of the Day podcast

This isn’t what you’ll read on those pretty bottles of corn, soy, canola, margarine, Crisco, and other toxic vegetable oil products- but it is true nonetheless.
Not only are these oils not “vegetable” in origin, like we’ve been told glibly for years, they are actually from otherwise hard, inedible seeds that have been treated with harsh chemical extraction methods to get a somewhat edible, cheap product out of what would otherwise be nothing more than a machine lubricant. (Which is what margarine originally was).

Pretty much anyone, by now, especially those of a paleo persuasion, are well acquainted with the horrors of sugar and grains, especially wheat. Wheat, in particular, attacked your gut lining, setting you up for autoimmune disease by letting toxins flow from your intestine right into your bloodstream. Not to mention, the wheat you chew, in the form of bread or pasta or- well, almost everything you buy nowadays from the grocery, sticks right to your teeth, digesting the enamel and feeding the bad bacteria that thrive on sugar- because, wheat turns to sugar, right in your mouth.
And then the gluten, and the gliadin, and the insulin spiking sugar is all digested, further helping your fat gain and future sicknesses. Pretty much the perfect storm of ill health.
But, the part of the puzzle that most people, including paleo people, are missing is this: Vegetable Oils account for 30- 60% of the average American’s diet. They are loaded with toxins: if they weren’t chemically treated to deodorize them, they would smell so rancid that you would never touch them, much less eat them, or cook with them. Vegetable oils are all polyunsaturated, which means they cause inflammation throughout the body. And chronic inflammation is caused by free radicals, which cascade around in your system like bandits, causing extensive damage to your cells. And your cells are you.
And so- get soy, canola, corn, peanut and all the rest out of your kitchen. I don’t suppose you eat chips, (I haven’t for years), but lately I found the Kettle brand of potato chip, cooked in avocado oil! This is pretty unusual, though- the vast majority are cooked in canola, which is really rapeseed oil. They came up with a more appealing name for marketing, CANola, since most of this hard, smelly little seed is raised in Canada. Potato chips wouldn’t be all that bad as an occasional treat- if they were cooked in real oils, like the aforementioned avocado, coconut oil, or lard.
But all kinds of packaged cookies, breads, chips- just about everything is cooked in toxic vegetable oils. So, to stay healthy and lean- get these out of your diet!
Also, unfortunately, even in high end restaurants, they might tell you how their beef is grass fed, and their chicken free range- but no one tells you about their salad dressing oils or what kind of oil their meats and veggies are cooked in! So- ask. And make your own salad dressings at home, unless you can find one of the few good ones commercially.
It’s a tough life, being a Paleo Person in a civilized, Neolithic world! We have to embrace it, though, if we want to be lean, healthy, happy and fit.
Nothing truly good comes easily in this life. Nothing.
