PaleoJay's Smoothie Cafe #85 Be a Paleo Redneck!

If you think about it, paleo folks are kind of old school rednecks- they tend to hunt and fish their food, are outdoors almost all the time (hence the “red neck”), tend to be rural dwellers... kind of like hillbillies used to be before welfare and Walmart.  Kind of like Jed Clampett and Jethro, or Little Abner from the old newspaper comic - quite fit and self reliant, since he provided for his own simple needs and that of his family and community all by himself!

There is a lot in small town and rural America that is the very best that this country and its civilization has to offer.  Our major cities are amazing in their size and structures, but at what cost?  They are increasingly unsafe and crime-ridden, bankrupt, and absorb most of the revenues of the country and each individual state they are in... large areas of our major cities are actual, living nightmares of smog, crime, bad chemicalized water and air, and hugely overcrowded.

Elvis is a good metaphor for what has happened to America.  The young Elvis Presley was a paleo redneck- a good kid from a rural, small town upbringing- slim and fit very good looking... and, of course, with a great ear and voice!

Then, just as all of the US started doing in those years after World War 2-

He got too much, too fast, and way too long!
Lil Abner

I mean too much of everything he thought he wanted.  And, he simultaneously lost what was really valuable to him- his privacy, his ability to walk around unnoticed, the quiet of the rural nature he was accustomed to, small town life, real friends that liked him for himself... he lost everything by gaining too much that was just glitzy and fake.

So did all of us, just to a lesser extreme.

We all take for granted in the western world now that we have enough to eat; too much actually. Too little movement, too much sitting, too much money even!  I mean, most would disagree, but think about it: in the 1960’s, families only had one car.  All meals were prepared and eaten at home.  One black and white television, and an AM radio in the car (with Elvis on it).

Now little kids have smart phones, computers, iPads, and big screen TV’s- and this includes welfare kids!  Cars are common to be owned by 16 year olds, and MOST meals are purchased at fast food and other convenience outlets.  And now, the husband AND the wife are expected to work full time, and much of the salary of the second income goes to taxes, which mainly go to support failing big cities...

And now most of us, just as Elvis did, have become fat, sick, addicted to all kinds of prescription and non prescription drugs, are depressed and feel like we have no time, so we stay up late to “have a life” and watch our big screen TVs, leaving us not enough time for quality sleep...
the Clampetts

So hey- the future is in our past!  We know what we need to to, and it is already just beginning to start to happen. The move OUT of the big metropolitan areas, back to smaller communities.  Small local farms and ranches, smaller churches, local credit unions and banks, local government over big government, state over federal, county over state...

PaleoJay Redneck
It worked wonderfully before, and it will again!  It won’t be exactly the same, but it will be quite similar, just with different and better technologies, but we will be restored and rejuvenated as- PALEO REDNECKS!

Paleo Quick Tips #6 up and ready!

Paleo Quick Tips #6  www.paleojay.com

Connect with a local Farm for your meat!
Smoothies for Maximum nutrition- resolve to have one green smoothie per day!
Subtract Bad Foods in your diet by... Addition!
Stay away from Doctors and Dentists as much as possible
And why Chiropractors are good “Health Coaches”

I finally have found a good, local source of naturally raised pork, free range chickens, and grass fed beef!  This is a real breakthrough- my health is already very good, but this is one more “piece in the puzzle” of ultimate health that is really crucial.  Real, natural, God made foods should be the heart (and soul!) of your diet and nutrition; not supplements.  (That’s why they’re called supplements)  The only supplement I really use is Vitamin D liquid, and only sometimes when I know I’m not getting enough sun for optimal health.  www.StBrigidsMeadows.com
That is the farm outside of La Crosse Wisconsin that I have connected with.  I’m sure there is one near you as well- the sustainable, local form of agriculture is making a huge comeback- just like Big Ag, Big Medical, and Big Government are bloated and inefficient- Small and Local is the way to go- back to the future!

Make your New Year’s resolution now: have at least ONE green or better yet Paleo Smoothie per day!  This one resolution will improve your health dramatically, and almost overnight- you will be hydrated, loaded up with maximum nutrition, and you will feed through the probiotics in the drink your intestinal bacteria that actually digest your food for you.  You will also Subtract BAD or Junk foods from your diet by addition:
if you add really good foods to your diet, say in the form of natural, grass fed and anti-biotic free meats and a Paleo Smoothie loaded with green veggies, protein, probiotics, and berries, spices and herbs, you won’t have room for the junk!
You won’t even want it- you will just be too full!
Thus: Subtraction by  Addition!

Get your Vitamix, at the best deal you will find at www.paleojay.com
Free shipping, and if you call and order, my free eBook Perfectly Paleo Exercise are both included on any model you order, even the refurbished ones, which are a great, economical, yet fully guaranteed choice.  Many colors to choose from- the perfect Christmas gift for yourself or a loved one!
Much, much cheaper that continued Doctor or Dentist visits and treatments and medicines and more medicines and treatments... forever!

And that is another thing- you goal should be to see a Doctor or Dentist...
As infrequently as possible! Their goals are not your goals- they want you to be alive, but sick and needing endless “medicines and treatments”, i.e. statin drugs, high blood pressure medicines, anti-depressants, diabetic medications, constant dental work, root canals, vaccinations for flu, and the list goes on and on...

If your car ran fine, would you bring it in monthly for a checkup and send scopes down the pistons to see if everything is OK at the charge of thousands of dollars??

Take care of your body, and it’s much less likely to need constant “potions and treatments” than your car- because the body can actually repair itself- given proper nutrition, rest, and natural movement stimulus in the form of real Paleo Exercise.

On the other hand, Chiropractors, particularly those in the www.maximizedliving.com
network, are great “health coaches”- they can monitor your health, outside of the mainstream health care industry, and guide you along your way- they are basically doing what Medical doctors USED to do, in the old days in small town Americana and elsewhere.  Check out the movie trailer at Doctored the movie! to see what the American Medical Association attempted to do to discredit their competitors!

Now, I’m off on a “grill extravaganza”, grilling my meat for the week- pork ribs from “milk fed” hogs, grass fed hamburger, and BACON!  I grill it up, and heat up a few slices throughout the week- just great done on the grill.

Have a Great Week?

Buy your Paleo food Locally Part 2

OK, I was all excited: I went to the processor of many of the eatwild.com farms that had grass fed beef here in my area of Southwestern Wisconsin!  I thought-

"This is so cool!  ALL of these family farms, who have their grass fed, wholesome beef and other meats processed in this one facility will now be available to me!  One stop shopping!!"

I asked the counterman about grass fed beef...

"No- we do process a lot of family farms that do that, but here we only sell
HIGH GRADE, GRAIN FED BEEF!"

This was a nice meat market, but wouldn't you think the guy would think about all the grass fed beef they were processing, and think that there might be a market for it in his own store?

Disappointing, but it pointed out one thing to me:

You really need to connect with a FARMER who does things the way you want!

The convenient, modern, one-stop-shopping route that was the be-all-end-all of the 1960's better living through chemistry and industrialization has FAILED!  And, by it's very nature, it will continue to fail; we need to get back to buying local produce, in particular meats that we know that the farmer or rancher involved is trustworthy and honest.  Strong ETHICS are important in ALL endeavors!

We did check out a really nice GOLF COURSE in Winona, Minnesota, just up the river from us, The Bridges, that has a restaurant: Signatures that features local meats, and free range chicken dishes- excellent- if you are traveling the "River Road", and are in Winona, check this place out!

Paleo approved!

But then, on the way home we spied this BUS next to us on the highway:

A wonderful idea: Tapestry, an Enchanted Garden
"Healthy vegetables to color your life"

But check out the dilapidated bus, and the broken window!
This looks like a hippie dream gone wrong!  Kind of scary, really...

Here is another view of the Winona golf course- very Paleo-esque, easy to imagine Indian/paleolithic peoples running around in this environment, (sans chairs), they would just do the Asian squat-

And so, I thought I would leave you with a Utopian vision of what a nice golf course and Eden-like landscaping can do-

Food for the Paleo-nativist soul- Ideal landscape, sunshine, healthy activity (golf) - with real foods!

I hope you have days such as this, for a long time to come!  Life is really simple, if you think about it.
