Get a Vitamix or DIE!

I’m sorry for the hyperbole within that title- ‘Get a Vitamix or die!’  You won’t really die- you will be just like the hordes of almost undead Americans that are gradually slipping into not only unhealthy, but into levels of diabesity.

If you are not sure by now what diabesity is, let me illuminate: diabesity is the precursor to all modern degenerative disease.  ALL.  

Once you are on this path, there is no good way out.  You will continue eating your processed carbs, blithely ignoring everything I say on a weekly basis, and gradually getting fatter and fatter, or at least more insulin resistant and diabetic.  As you ignore my recommendations to go lower carb, and higher vegetables in your diet, it will not go well with your health.  Sorry, but it is guaranteed!  

Higher carbs, processed (fast and boxed and packaged) foods will sicken you, slowly but surely.  Just as a high vegetable, with a modicum of low sugar fruits thrown in- (like citrus and berries)- diet will gradually make you healthier and healthier!  But most folks will not incorporate large amounts of vegetables into their diets!  This is the truth- they are acclimated to modern ideas, and those ideas say “Eat what you like!  Moderation in all things.  Keep calories in line, and you are fine!

The only good thing is that those who have been paying attention to actual modern science know that this is BS.  Calories, overall, mean very little.  Ratio of carbs to fat mean much more.  As does quality of meat, eggs, and seafood- pastured, free range, and wild caught, to point it out!  

QUALITY OF FOODS MATTER, HUGELY.  Most sources will tell you it makes no difference.  They are wrong- a calorie is not a calorie!  A Skittle is not the same as Kale.  

And, most importantly, the quality and nutrient density of foods are paramount to health!

And here is why you need a Vitamix, or you will die in squalor and pain in a back alley… just kidding!

Actually, why I say this is because, although you may not need a Vitamix or other high speed blender to stay alive: You do to stay healthy!

I kind of hate to “beat the same drum,” but the truth is that if you don’t have a blender to make yourself (and your family!) a  Green Paleo Smoothie that you can drink on a daily basis- you will not get the greens and other anti-oxidants, including spices that will give you optimal health.  You won’t- it’s almost impossible in this modern world.

Millenia ago, you and your tribe would have been foraging around, looking for anything viable to eat.  You would have grabbed any green matter that presented itself, and made a point of testing it out.  Over time, your tribe would have figured out which plants were good, and which weren’t.  Mainly, this would have been the women, while the men were off hunting mastodons!  But, the information would have been passed on, be sure of that.

The point now is this: we are in an era where calories are all too available, for the first time in history!   This explains our out-of-control obesity, pre-diabestity, and diabesity!  It has become endemic!  

There is a super simple solution.  We need a lot of green veggies in our diet, which we no longer get.  Also, berries and citrus, those low sugar fruits loaded with anti-oxidants.  The spices are also important, since spices like ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, clove and some others as well are more potent sources of medicinal properties than most actual drugs.  Spices are wonderful foods, superfoods really!  

So, fire up your Vitamix, or other high speed blender!  There is really no way to get a high amount of green vegetables into your diet- NONE!  And using your blender, you can mix up a huge amount of veggies and fruits in short order, put them into canning jars in the fridge (after drinking the most recent, and most loaded with nutrients), and thereby you can load up your diet with all that you really need, paleolithiocally.

Other Paleo folks will contest me to my dying day.  I don’t care- a blended smoothie will give you more nutrients than almost anything I can think of- especially on a regular basis!

The BEST health advice EVER! PJSC podcast

I go on and on about what you should do for your health- it is a passion with me!  Diet, exercise, lifestyle- they all are so important!

For instance, if you are not sleeping in a blackened out, dark room every night, for at least 8 hours- you are harming your health in huge amounts!  Also, if you are eating gluten because ‘everyone does, and it’s just a fad’, well, I’m sorry- you are wrong- your gut is being made permeable, which means that all kinds of toxic crap is just flowing unimpeded into your circulatory system, making you just ripe for autoimmune diseases of all sorts!

I could go on and on: if you don’t exercise, especially in an appropriate type of way- you too will suffer severe health consequences.  Also, if you don’t get out into nature on a regular basis, experiencing the sounds of birds singing, and the wind through the trees as pollen and oxygen flows over your being- you will lose your health!
never There are so many ways that modern people wreck their health!  But, if there was one single thing that I would say is the MOST IMPORTANT??

Eat lots of vegetables.  Really- eat lots of vegetables!!

Now, what could be simpler than that?  I’m not asking you to go out and run marathons, (actually, please don’t!  Not healthy in the slightest!).   Also, I don’t ask you to lift super heavy weights, “bulk up”, and do ridiculously strenuous Crossfit stupid workouts- (again- please don’t!)

I do want you to work out, regularly, every day if you can in fact, but using bodyweight and self-resisted types of movement with lots of stretching, ala Perfectly Paleo Exercise.  Very simple stuff; actually very intuitive, once you get started.

BUT- the ONE main thing that I want you to do for HEALTH is this:

EAT LOTS OF VEGETABLES- EVERY DAY!!

Now, I’m not a vegan, or a vegetarian- not even close!  Those two camps are, in my opinion, retarded. Stupid.  There has never been a vegan or vegetarian culture in the history of humans…NEVER!  They simply would not have survived without animal products, which we have evolved to take advantage of- never doubt this!

BUT- we are meant to eat tons, I mean lots of vegetables, I mean green leafy stuff, along with a few berries (in season) on a daily basis.  I mean like, ala Terry Wahls- 6 to 8 cups per day!

So, this is the best health advice ever!  Eat tons of vegetables, every day.  The best, honestly, are wild vegetables, like plantain, and dandelion, and their ilk.  They are absolutely loaded with nutrients!

But, you can do just fine with frozen and fresh veggies, like spinach, beets and beet greens, mixed assortments like the California Mix at the grocery with carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and hey- throw in some sprouts- broccoli sprouts are now widely available, and so nutritious that they are like anti-cigarettes- that’s how healthy they are!!

The main takeaway is this:  it is difficult in modern times to eat that much vegetation!  Our culture has a little green salad, along with a huge burger and fries- that’s normal.  So, what to do??

Simple, grasshopper- get a high powered blender, (Vitamix is the gold standard!!), and make a real, paleo smoothie each day!  Use lots and lots of veggies, either fresh or frozen, and only a handful of fruit.  Berries and citrus are the best, since they are lowest in fructose.  Ideally, throw in everything I suggest for my Paleo Smoothie on www.paleojay.com, since I include everything your poor body needs to counteract modern SAD living.

But, mainly?  PUT A TON OF VEGGIES IN YOUR SMOOTHIE!  It’s a simple solution to a modern problem, and vastly underrated.  

Your goal should be this: to be a paleolithic carnivore, who also eats more veggies than a vegan!

Podcast #63 The Paleolithic Ghost of the New Year! AND- Tumac (Mighty Slayer) meets Raquel Welch!!

“This will be MY year!”  Matt thought.
“The year I go back to the Paleolithic- the year I get fit and healthy!!”

Of course, he had said that many times in the past... but this time, this time he KNEW he would make it- he had ordered his Vitamix blender, he had cleaned out his kitchen of ALL junk, processed, and neolithic, man-made foods-

He was going back to... GOD MADE foods;
AND HE WAS BRINGING HIS WHOLE FAMILY WITH HIM!!

His wife had begun taking multiple prescriptions, for high blood pressure, cholesterol, and now depression- all this despite the fact that she ate like a bird most of the time, watched her fat intake like a hawk, and exercised for at least a couple of hours, mostly daily, except when she was injured, which seemed to be more and more often lately- and Samantha was only 35!

Mikey, their son was only 10 years old, and lean as a bean pole.  Sam thought this was great- the only thing that seemed to matter to her was “leanness”.  But Matt noticed the huge mood swings in his son, and how he had trouble concentrating at school.  And their daughter, Taylor, was 14, and had just entered high school this past Fall.  She had always seemed so healthy and happy, but since starting school, she had been dieting like crazy, and he had begun to fear for her health as well.

There had been arguing, and some tears from both the children AND his wife when he had announced his plan.  Matt had pointed out that, since he had been pronounced both pre-diabetic AND hypertensive, as had his wife Sam, that they had no choice but to try this Paleo thing- it was either that, or slowly get sicker and sicker and fatter and fatter...

Matt had always been an athletic kid, and even played lots of sports right up through college.  After that, getting a job and married, he was sporadic with the physical training and playing, and started eating more and more at restaurants, and ordering pizza for him and Sam.  (Sam usually gave him her cheesy topping, and only ate the crust, which was low fat)!  But they both put on maybe 10 or 15 pounds of fat over the next 10 years.

After first Taylor, and then Matt were born, it seemed they were always so busy and frazzled that there was never the time or the desire to exercise, or even to go for a walk.  Matt started dropping off the kids and their mom at the store, so they wouldn’t have to walk... he often thought of the irony later, Sam drove off to the health club to workout on her cardio machines.

This had all changed the day he had been visited by the ghostly visitor-

THE GHOST OF NEW YEAR’S PAST!

It had been a couple of days after Christmas, and the kids were both in bed, sated with the many electric gadgets they had received for presents.  Sam was upstairs, taking a bath before bed.  Matt had walked in the living room to look once more at the beautiful Christmas tree, and smell its balsam fragrance once more, when-

A strange, bronzed figure leaped through the window!

He looked down at Matt with blazing, blue eyes, this spectral figure that was almost a giant in stature, and said “You will follow me to the past”!  Upon which he grasped the startled man’s wrist in an iron-like clasp, and pulled...

Matt felt a huge WRENCH on his arm, and then he was surrounded by waves of changing lights, and buffets of strong winds as he and his unearthly captor were flown through yawning chasms of space and time.  When it finally stopped, he looked about him dazedly at a fire, some group of men, women and children sitting and standing about it, with a group of dogs roaming in the background- then he passed out!

I AM YOUR ANCESTOR

When he awoke, he was lying on a fur, and had more atop him to keep him warm; it was a chill morning.  He sat up, and all about him were people- tawny haired, blue eyed, very well developed and clean limbed folk.  They looked at him with interest- one ran off with alacrity.

This one returned quickly with the Ghostly abductor from the night before- looking not at all ghostly in the morning light, and seemingly bursting with strength, health and vitality!

“I am here to save you” said the tall, broad shouldered man, “and your family, my descendants, at the same time!  The Great Spirit has granted me this, to travel to the future to help my progeny!”

And he gestured with both arms wide, as if invoking the Great One then and there, and suddenly crouching down like a great cat at Matt’s side, pulled him to his feet.

“I have much to show you, my son of many of my sons!”  We have not much time, so make haste.”

YOUR FUTURE IS IN YOUR PAST

Much was revealed to Matt in the next span of time, which seemed long, but which could have been hours, or even days, but Matt had no way of knowing.  He learned from his long ago Tribe- he hunted with them, with spear and flint-tipped knife.  He learned the relish of bringing down a mammoth with the other men; the heady rush of exaltation after a few days of scanty food, the gusty feasting after the carrying home of the meat, the dancing, music and celebrations- all was elemental in its simplicity, and yet the more satisfying and real for all that.

The tribe itself was all like one big family- about 50 men, women and children, assorted dogs- all were equal and important, all had a say in what was done.  Matt’s ancestor, whose name meant Mighty Slayer, but sounded nothing like that in speech, sounding more like TUMAC, simple and short as were all of their names.  He learned them all there, befriended them, but then he... forgot when he returned.

Matt had learned the importance; nay, the absolute criticality of eating real, God made animals that eat what God intended from nature.  He reveled in the true, uncivilized hearty friendships with his fellow tribesmen, since they were real, no false flattery uttered for gain, since all was shared equally anyway!  He felt his health return, and then surpass anything that it had been, even in his youth!  He was a tanned, lithe pantherish figure that last day, having just killed his first boar, and been acclaimed about the council fires.

BACK TO THE FUTURE

It was there, about the fire, that the leader of the tribe, his ancestor, came again to him before the tribe and the fire.

“It is time to return” he said.  “You must...remember!”

With that, he again grasped Matt’s wrist, and held it in an iron grip.

A surge of changing lights, the buffet of strong winds, and then... blackness.


Matt awoke in bed, his wife beside him.  He felt utterly- different!  He looked down at his hand, and easily leapt from the bed.  What had happened?  Had it all been a dream?  If so...

Matt looked at himself in the mirror, and grasped the sink for support.  The man looking back at him from the glass was him alright- but an impossibly lean, tanned and fit looking version!  He knew that man he saw had NO health issues, and he felt as if he could move huge boulders single-handed.

And he knew, as he would always know from then on, that this was the year that
HE AND HIS TRIBE WOULD BE PALEO
FOREVER!!

On that thought, he went downstairs to clean out the kitchen, and load up the Vitamix!

Shakeology or Paleo Smoothie?


Or even (gasp) Real Food??!!  Is that even an option?


You bet it is!

I recently read about this Shakeology guy in a business magazine.  It appears that this young, model-type of guy, Darin Olien, is the spokesmodel for this multi-level marketing powdered shake mix, that is affiliated with the much-hyped on TV P90X exercise DVD outfit.

I was curious, since it was a "shake" or smoothie type of deal... so I checked it all out online.

Bottom line?

Darin travels the globe, looking for rare, and probably magical fruits, tubers, nuts, whatever, and then cutting deals with the locals to provide them for his dehydrated Shakeology drinks!  This enables you, the consumer, to purchase these powdered shake-things to mix up in your blender, and replace meals with!  (Sounds eerily like the Paleo Quick Start Smoothie, right?)  Just mix it up with water, almond milk, or extra-sugary juice (it doesn't really matter, does it?) and voila- Shakeology!

I include the ingredient list below; nothing in it is really bad.  Wheat grass, Barley grass, Wheat grass- not so great.  Whey protein, hey, OK.  But at $120.00 for 30 servings... YIKES!!

Here is my own Paleo Smoothie ingredient list, replete with nutrition, that you can easily make yourself.  The nutrition levels are about as good as it gets:


Quick Paleo Smoothie ingredients list:
My current recipe- variations are not only possible, but encouraged! But the base outlined here is very representative of a transformative replacement meal/ultimate real food supplement in one tasty drink!





Coconut Milk- 1 can
Coconut oil and/or red Palm oil- 2 Tablespoons
Carlson’s or Nordic Naturals Cod liver oil- 1 Tablespoon
Powdered kelp- 1 teaspoon
Unsweetened kefir- 1/4 cup
Organic, unsweetened lemon juice- 1 teaspoon
Apple cider vinegar- 1 teaspoon
1-2 cups of green tea
cinnamon- 1 tsp- also great on coffee and whipped cream! (Fresh ground is best-
I use a coffee grinder)
Frozen organic spinach- approximately 1 cup
Frozen mixed organic vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots), ~1 cup
Frozen organic mixed berries- blueberries, raspberries, strawberries- 1 cup
1/2 banana (I freeze mine so they don’t over-ripen) optional
1 peeled orange
2 raw, organic free range eggs (optional)
grass fed Whey protein powder (Optional)

Since publishing my ebook, I have begun adding the dried, powdered varieties of:
turmeric 1 tsp
ginger 1 tsp
Both are strong anti-inflammatory agents, among many other benefits.
I have also started substituting dried coconut milk powder for the canned coconut milk..
This is optional, but is cheaper, and more convenient as well!
ALSO, magnesium powder and Vitamin D powder are great adjuncts as well-
And NOW, as a PREBIOTIC to help my gut microbes, I have begun adding in:
4 Tablespoons of Bob's Potato Starch
This last is a real improvement for your health!
Also, I often add in an avocado as well...

As you can see, one of the great advantages of a drink like this is that you can constantly vary, tweak, and otherwise enhance the nutrition of your smoothie!  Use seasonal veggies and fruits in the summer months, add vitamin D liquid in the winter, 1/4 of a peeled lemon when feeling a cold coming on... experiment!

That’s it! You can also “mix and match” with fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables you have on hand- cranberries are a favorite of mine, as is liquid vitamin D in the Winter months!


The beauty of this drink, besides its being economical, real food, is that it has everything that your body and mind need to thrive!!  Nothing exotic, but really, exotic is really not necessary...it just makes good marketing.

Save your money!

It's a multi-level marketing scheme, and I believe P90X is right in the same ballpark-home grown versions of exercise (see www.transformetrics.com) are even more effective, and do-able long term.

With all the money you save by avoiding these bogus fitness schemes, you can buy a real fitness tool- a Vitamix Blender, to make your own Paleo Smoothies!!

And, you can also get a Weber Grill and a slow cooker to make...  real food!!  (What a concept!)

You may have enough money left over to buy a chin-up bar, a set of perfect pushup devices, and make your own kettlebell- now you have all you will ever need for fitness AND nutrition!!

Forget the multilevel marketing versions of health- Do it yourself!

PaleoJay Podcast 22- My Personal Vitamix Story!

I was a long time weight lifter, having been a really skinny kid in the 1960’s, I was determined to “bulk up”.  Health was always important to me as well, but I wanted to be BIGGER.  I started out with standard weightlifting protocol of 3X per week, and that really worked in my 20’s!  I rather rapidly put on 20-30-40 pounds of muscle- but that wasn’t enough!  I ate- all I could!  But indiscriminately: I ate lean meat, but I also ate pizza, and ice cream, and just about anything I wanted...  

And I started training MORE- I’d train for an hour or two, HARD, and then go out and RUN a few miles.  I stretched religiously as well (thank God), but my cortisol levels must have been through the roof!  I literally reached the point where, even in Church!, I would be thinking about my workout later that day...  

My priorities were WAY out of whack.  My bad diet had me top out at 220 pounds, on a very small boned frame!  I started having migraine headaches, my back hurt, my shoulders hurt, my feet hurt, and my knees hurt.  I had bony protruberances growing out of my elbows- this really irked me- what was this?  I was HEALTHY!

I did try to eat “low fat, high protein”, and I started having hemorrhoids too- 

“What was going on???” I asked myself.  I am all about HEALTH!!”

My wife was starting to have health problems too, and I wondered “what the heck- we are very health conscious!  How can this be?  I bake all of our own 100% whole wheat bread, and we eat it constantly- we should be super healthy!”

I was in my 50’s here, and knew I had to figure this out.  I didn’t want to be sick, something I had ALWAYS tried to avoid.  I had always revered the ancient Greeks, and their credo of “A healthy mind in a sound body”.  So, I went to the newest version of SCROLLS for learning, the rather newish INTERNET.

I found the Paleo Diet, via Loren Cordain!  

Immediately, I knew this guy was on to something.  It all made sense!  I had always hated the “low fat” mantra- I mean, old time bodybuilders that I had read for years always lauded butter, and cream, and steak, and eggs...  the difference was, the whole wheat thing, that I had swallowed hook line and sinker from Rodale Press and the mainstream was...BULL!  

For one thing, WHEAT had CHANGED!  Dr. Cordain never pointed that out- he just maintained that grains, especially wheat, were ALL bad!  What a mind changer!  I even sent him some questions, which he graciously answered- I knew this guy was a game changer as well.
I really thought about all of this, and wondered how I could implement it, as effectively as possible into my family.  I researched, I thought, I read Weston A. Price, and every Paleo guy there was at the time (not much!)...

I thought about what would be the MOST efficient, easy, effective, and just plain DO-able way to do this thing in the modern world- eat lots of GREEN vegetables, good FATS, and healthy PROTEIN, while eliminating most starchy carbohydrates and sugars and all grains??

First, I tried a juicer.  I thought it would be perfect- reducing fruits and vegetables to juice... but, it was a MESS!  And throwing away all the pulp seemed INSANE to me.

And then, finally, I found the Vitamix Blender!

Finally, I knew I had it all figured out.  I could add anything, I mean anything and it would be liquified; meaning ALL the cell walls of the vegetables, and fruits, and anything else I might want to include (Golf balls, anyone??)  would be broken down and ready for my body to assimilate readily.  ( I was kidding about the golf balls, but it probably would liquify them as well...)

So, I began assimilating every super healthy Paleo ingredient (meaning anything our ancient forebears would have revered as healthy foods!) into a wonderful drink that would nourish anyone that drank it as much as what Ponce de Leon was searching for in his Fountain of Youth- and I FOUND IT!  As near to the “fountain of Youth and Health” as there is allowed to us here on this mortal plane- 

The Paleo Smoothie!  

Basically, making a green vegetable, green tea and kefir based smoothie with loads of coconut milk, oil, butter, organic spices, and berries and citrus will revolutionize your total health.  It will literally reverse (I’m speaking personally here) : migraines will disappear, Fat will melt away, aches and pains in you joints and fingers and knees stop happening- I mean, this is all just personal experience, but Personal Experience is the most important determinant in all of our lives; and trust me: this experience seems to cure  just about everything.  And, I am not exaggerating!

Rosacea, crohn’s disease, acne, obesity, irritable bowel syndrome- I mean anything you can think of, up to and including cancers and heart disease- this is the best preventative I can think of.  That is how powerful the Vitamix is, in incorporating the foods, easily and effectively, into our bodies where they can do what they have through all of time to protect and nourish us to be incredibly healthy and disease free!

I mean, it would be enough to say the this simple machine could make us slim and healthy, wouldn’t it?

But the fact is: it will give us the capability, by maximizing our nutrient intake, to achieve our ultimate health and wellness, and reverse most modern diseases by the same avenue of maximizing our nutrient intake, making us replete with nutrients that our bodies are screaming for!


And that is what the Vitamix blender did for my family and myself. Paraphrasing the great John Wesley- 

“Be as healthy as you can, and as helpful as you can, for as long as you can!”

A Vitamix helps you to do just that, easily!

I thought I had better put this out there- I just got it "hot off the Paleo Press"- and it is great for "unbelievers" or those who have never heard of this way of eating and living...  it was created and meant to be shared all around, to spread the good news:

A Vitamix is a chewing machine!


OK- here I am with a Green Drink from my Vitamix-  Paleo Smoothie!  I would be hard-pressed to eat this many vegetables in a day, much less chew them enough to ensure adequate digestion!  With a Vitamix doing the "chewing" for me, this is not a problem!


Lots of us are not that enamored of eating lots and lots of vegetables... understandable!

But, just add them to the Vitamix canister, along with some natural berries and other fruits, coconut milk, and- well, here is the blog with the recipe list included: paleo smoothie recipe

It's part of a blog about "Shakeology", but it's there...  and it works!  Way more detail in my 1st eBook,
Paleo Quick Start, but you can just take the recipe and go!  And variations are not only acceptable, but encouraged.  More veggies- more variety- more health!  Your garden (or your Farmer's Market!) is your  Palette- draw from it- add to your health.


I know from experience that most folks resist buying a Vitamix:

Too expensive
Too big of a change of lifestyle (versus pouring cereal and milk into a bowl...)
Seems "weird"- putting veggies and "strange" liquids (kefir, raw eggs, pastured butter, coconut milk, green tea) into a blender....
Trust me, have you priced a diagnosis of cancer or diabetes lately?

but our health care system makes no sense whatsoever, which is why it (and we) are going broke!

But you don't have to go down this self-destructive path-  

Take the conservative approach- don't rely on Government!  Provide for your own health!

Eat good, real, natural, God-made foods!  
Do natural, non-machine, real body exercise!!
SLEEP a LOT!
Have good personal connections- a "Tribe" or "Family" with which you connect...

Do all of the above, and you will be a healthy, happy, spiritually fulfilled, and FIT cave person!

Make your own supplements!

I have been listening, via a great podcast superhuman radio on my iPhone to Dr. Thomas Levy.  The good doctor, who is not any longer in lock-step with his professional colleagues, has had great success in treating many modern diseases with Vitamin C!  (Remember Linus Pauling?  He was castigated, similarly to Robert Atkins of the low carb diet fame, by the medical establishment).

It turns out that vitamin C, which is produced by virtually ALL other animals, is NOT produced by humans.  Common knowledge, really, but the implications to health are very important:  The RDA for vitamin C might prevent scurvy; but it is far too low to prevent "scurvy of the heart", or "scurvy of the bones", or other bodily systems.

The bottom line is that Vitamin C is FAR more important for us than the current medical system believes, or is willing to recommend.  The implications for heart disease, and cancer, to name only two, are more important than we might ever believe- not to mention simply optimizing our health.


So, what is the bottom line?

I don't think it is necessary, or even optimal to take massive amounts of supplements. After all, that is why they are called supplements!  


"But Jay, but Jay!" I hear you saying.  "Supplements are so expensive!"


Yes, indeed they are, and many (most!) are totally synthetic, and not really good for human consumption...

So I say MAKE YOUR OWN SUPPLEMENTS!

Just start with a Vitamix blender...

Actually, many variations are possible- and are to be encouraged!  Go heavy on the vitamin C- and don't think only citrus- did you know that red peppers are much higher in vitamin C than oranges??

So, my point, again is this: MAKE YOUR OWN SUPPLEMENTS!  It's way easier to take a Vitamix, and blend together real foods, and drink them throughout your day1  I mean, cooking foods is great, cooking real foods like veggies and meats and fruits and spices and seafood!  

Nothing better!  EXCEPT, perhaps:

Blending them up, RAW, along with every single thing your body needs in one, easily assimilable "package" that is not only easy to transport and consume, but that gives your body (and mind!) everything they need to thrive and gain optimum health!!

I don't know about you, but I would do all I could to avoid "scurvies"- in other words modern, sub-standard food deficiencies that will render me (and you too of course) sickly, be-deviled with "mind fog", and prone to all of the diseases of modern civilization- cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, arthritis, the list goes on and on....

Just choose health!  It's easy, too- actually even easier than the fast foods that are leading the bulk of us to our sick, weak, pain-filled future- 

Making a daily smoothie is about as easy as it gets, one we "get it" and make the transition!  

If you have bad teeth, skin, or hair...

THIS IS THE "INDICATOR LIGHT" OF YOUR BODY:

This means that your body is "breaking down"!    If you don't address the cause; i.e. your sub-standard diet that is not providing your body enough nutrients, you are setting yourself up for all of the diseases of modern civilization:  ( listed above, but only partially...)

If your car was flashing "check oil" you would jump on it!!

Your body's indicator lights are SO much MORE important!

Do NOT ignore them!  

Start making your own supplements!!

A Vitamix is a chewing machine!

OK- here I am with a Green Drink from my Vitamix-  Paleo Smoothie!  I would be hard-pressed to eat this many vegetables in a day, much less chew them enough to ensure adequate digestion!  With a Vitamix doing the "chewing" for me, this is not a problem!

Lots of us are not that enamored of eating lots and lots of vegetables... understandable!

But, just add them to the Vitamix canister, along with some natural berries and other fruits, coconut milk, and- well, here is the blog with the recipe list included: paleo smoothie recipe

It's part of a blog about "Shakeology", but it's there...  and it works!  Way more detail in my 1st eBook,
Paleo Quick Start, but you can just take the recipe and go!  And variations are not only acceptable, but encouraged.  More veggies- more variety- more health!  Your garden (or your Farmer's Market!) is your  Palette- draw from it- add to your health.


I know from experience that most folks resist buying a Vitamix:
  1. Too expensive
  2. Too big of a change of lifestyle (versus pouring cereal and milk into a bowl...)
  3. Seems "weird"- putting veggies and "strange" liquids (kefir, raw eggs, pastured butter, coconut milk, green tea) into a blender....
Trust me, have you priced a diagnosis of cancer or diabetes lately?

Barney Fife- PALEO MAN!

How much we have forgotten!  Back in 1964, almost 50 years ago, common knowledge was that carbohydrates; i.e. sugar and it's near-twin- BREAD, were really harmful, both for controlling weight, and for preserving overall health!

Even Barney Fife knew it!!  Aunt Bea surely did, but just didn't have the will power to resist her own cooking...   I'll bet even Gomer and OTIS knew it!!  There's not an episode to prove it, but there surely could have been one where Otis, hungover in jail after another binge, refuses Aunt Bea's dessert offering on the grounds that it might "damage his health and physique".

So, take this brief message to heart!  Every time someone offers you "Carbohydrates and Glucose"-

Just say no!

I will thank you, your body will thank you, Andy will thank you, and Aunt Bea might even switch over to a stevia/wild honey sweetened filling  and coconut flour piecrust!! (What would Clara say?)

And you know that Barney will thank you!

Carbohydrates and glucose are dangerous- Andy made Barney keep them in his pocket... like his dangerous, evil bullet.

You should too!

My family Vitamix history over a bowl of pumpkin soup!


I love my Vitamix!  Tonight I made a pumpkin soup from the cookbook included with all new Vitamixes called "Whole Food Recipes".  It's quite a nice cookbook!

As I assembled the ingredients together, I thought back over the past......amazingly, my Grandmother Mary Manthey, from South Dakota bought one of the first models back in the 1930's!  I never knew this until my own mother, Carolyn, told me after I had bought my first Vitamix!  Mine was an old 1980's model from eBay, and I got it for about $70.00. It had a stainless steel canister and base- you can see me holding it on my eBook cover to the right...  I still have it; it has transformed both my family's and my own health dramatically!
I used it for several years, and just recently upgraded to the new Vitamix 5200.  Here it is, loaded with the pumpkin, seeded apple, onion, nutmeg, white pepper and sea salt.  I ran it for 7 minutes, added a little cream and...WOW!  Your Vitamix is just as valuable in the evening for soups as it is vital in the mornings for your Paleo Quick Start Smoothie!

My Grandmother Mary, who lived almost to 100, was an active, healthy woman her entire life.  She continued to volunteer at the nursing home right up to the end, helping out folks younger than herself.  Here she is in an old video made for Cable TV with her daughters (Paula, Janey and Carolyn) and my father Phil from 1989.  She was 94!  



She still had years left before her of vitality and good living- I credit it partly to her lifelong Vitamix usage!
Can you imagine the general public's deterioration of nutrition she witnessed during her long life!

Has your food changed over the past 100 years?


According to a recent study at the University of Colorado the nutrient density of food has declined significantly over the past 100 years. In fact nutrient density has declined approximately 40-60% over the past 100 years. That means that our food today typically has 50% fewer nutrients compared to the food that our grandparents ate. Nutrients such as the vitally important vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and phytochemicals are the foundation of healthy cells and a strong body. Today if you ate the same amount of vegetables that your grandparents ate you would only receive half the nutrients. Also your grandparent consumed on average 131 pounds of homegrown vegetables every year compared to 11 pounds today. And a recent study showed that only 11% of Americans eat 2 fruits and 3 vegetables every day. This unhealthy combination of nutrient poor foods and reduced intake is an open door for disease especially if it is applied over a lifetime. You can begin to reverse this trend today by simply making a conscious effort to include fresh, organic if possible, vegetables and fruit to every meal. A simple reminder with each is meal is to ask your self this question, “Is the majority of my food naturally produced and processed by God or has it been processed by man? I want to encourage you to brighten up your plate today with the colorful and nutritious foods that our Lord created for us.


Even worse than the deterioration of our foodstuffs themselves is the introduction of all of the man-made, processed, literally fake foods with actual negative nutritional value, that have come to dominate as the foods of choice for the entire modern Western world!  Disease is rampant, as is obesity and diabetes, and the primary cause is...

OUR FOOD!

And no one (in charge at least) seems to be addressing the problem!  

The vested interests are in selling subsidized grain, highly profitable processed foods, and in keeping alive the myth that All Fat is BAD- EAT MORE GRAINS!

Grandma Mary would be horrified!
