Go Paleo This New Year!

Start your caveman journey this year with a smile on your face, incrementally moving towards your goal bit by bit...

Say you are starting out as a budding cavewoman:



Some of us read about the Paleo diet, immediately grasp the principles behind it, agree with the theory, and grabbing the bull by the horns, immediately adopt the diet by:

Cutting sugar consumption dramatically (this includes orange juice and pop)
Eliminating grains and  industrial seed oils (Crisco, margarine, vegetable oils)
Adding LOTS of vegetables to the diet,(ideally in the form of salads and especially Paleo Smoothie blended drinks as outlined in Paleo Quick Start)
Getting rid of legumes, like beans and peanuts (Peanut butter is especially bad!)
INCREASING the consumption of good fats, (like free range chicken eggs, pastured butter, coconut oil and milk, avocados and fatty fish)
Eliminating pasteurized dairy (raw dairy is best; grass fed and fermented, such as in the form of kefir or Greek yogurt is better)
Eating significant amounts of grass fed beef and wild-caught seafood
Stopping of eating artificial sweeteners completely, such as in soda pop (raw honey is the best acceptable sweetener, followed by the herb stevia)
Limiting of fruit consumption to once or twice per day
Using good herbs and spices (such as a good sea salt, fresh ground pepper, and others such as cinnamon, cloves, turmeric, kelp and cayenne liberally)

Like I say, some of us can do all of the above, right away!

But, experience has shown me that, for most of us, such  an extreme change is unlikely, and leads to giving up on such a huge change all at once.

I'm here to suggest that you approach your Paleo journey "Back to the Future" by doing it incrementally...

What I did personally, was to first replace my morning daily breakfast with a good, green Paleo Smoothie!   This really got me going to a good place fast.  But, if you'd like, you can just replace your usual cereal and skim milk with eggs and bacon.  Do that for a week, and notice how much better you are feeling, how you don't "crash" early in the day...

Then, when you are ready, replace your afternoon sandwich and chips with a big salad topped with plenty of meat or seafood and plenty of olive oil and vinegar dressing, perhaps a hard boiled egg or two...

What about afternoon snacks?  Cookies, pie, chips, ding dong doritos, absolute crap like that?
Try taking a mix of almonds and dark chocolate chips along.  Hard boiled eggs.  Beef jerky.  All are great choices!

Supper?  Grilled or roasted meat, chicken or seafood.  Crockpots are GREAT!  Just limit the potatoes, or replace with sweet potatoes, and don't touch the bread!  I guarantee there is no need to EVER  get hungry eating this way!

Work on breakfast first... after awhile lunch, and then tackle dinner... It's incremental, and you will feel incrementally better each step of the way!

Add in some Perfectly Paleo Exercise along the way, and your Paleolithic Journey may have you arriving at your desired destination sooner than you think-


Just keep on with your destination in mind, and it will happen!

Andy Griffith of Paleo= PaleoJay!

Hi Ya'all!  PaleoJay here, I just want to say that I am pleased as punch that my new podcast has been approved by iTunes!  My goal is to be the folksy, easy-to-understand Sheriff of Paleo, and this here podcast should be my key to do just that.

Butter is Wonderful- Eat it and be Healthy!



We have all been brainwashed for the past 50 years or so about the evils of butter-

WRONG!


Butter, in particular natural, God-made, pastured butter from grass fed cows is one of the healthiest foods on the planet!

My thanks to Dave Asprey, of the Bulletproofexecutive.com for his excellent inforgraphic detailing this fact!

As you know, if you are a frequenter of this blog, I recommend including a hefty helping of pastured butter within your daily paleo smoothie.  Along with the coconut oil and coconut milk, you are getting a really good, healthy dose of good fats, along with the many veggies and fruits and kefir and...well, the list goes on and one, doesn't it?

Rather than concentrating on cutting calories, I believe that we should all be concentrating on packing the maximum amount of nutrition into every bite (or swallow!) that we consume!

The raw nutrients our bodies need come from real foods- make sure you are eating enough of...

(drum roll....)

REAL FOODS!  

Not processed grains.  Not processed dairy.  Not fast food, or restaurant industrial seed oil slathered 
foods...

Real foods, like you would make in your own kitchen, with butter, coconut oil, real meats and seafood, vegetables galore, and a few fruits.

If it's real food, eat it!  If it's not- don't!

If your Great Grandmother would not recognize what you are about to eat as food-

It's NOT!

Is the Paleo Diet just our Grandparent's Diet?

More or less, I think it largely is!  Back in the 1800's, say: what did most people eat?  Besides what they could grow and prepare themselves, very little.

The average sugar consumption in the time of George Washington was 3 pounds per year, per person... Today it is 162 pounds, per person!

If you don't think this kind of change is unprecedented, and has everything to do with our current obesity and diabetes epidemic, you are delusional... or else just listening to your doctor and the Government and "common wisdom" via the mass media.  Check this out, if you haven't already, and really listen and pay attention- it may save your life.
Sugar the Bitter Truth!




We all need to try to get back to the way things were before!

We can keep our iPhones, our internet- no problem!  That is how I am spreading the word today!  A new Gutenberg type of press, available to all, with a built in free mail system!!

But, we have to remember that many other things were much better, more human scale, and reasonable in the old days...

And by old I mean the 1960's and before- when we had

MUCH less big Government!  Government subsidies have done more to destroy single family farms than anything else, ever!

A Tiny Pharmaceutical industry!  They mainly sold medicines that you went and got from the local Dr. when you were sick, not before.    You took them until your affliction went away, and then you stopped.  Now, somehow, through the miracles of modern marketing, all of us are supposed to be on multiple meds throughout our entire lives!


THIS AIN'T NATURAL!!

And, along with the immediate above: we had MUCH LESS OF BIG MEDICINE.

Short of getting shot, or stabbed, or something else traumatic, if all else was right (proper diet, some exercise, good sleep, good family connections and spiritual life), there should be little to no reason to even go to the doctor's office!

Did you know that there is a blood test that can replicate the results of a colonoscopy?  Has your Dr. told you of it??  It's quite inexpensive, compared to the about $8000 of a colonoscopy...

Did you know that diabetes is reversible?  It's actually a condition, not a disease...
(See Dr. Lustig's video, above)   Has your Dr., if you are diabetic, told you about that??

So, maybe the idea of the "Paleo Diet" just seems too "Crazy" for you.  You are basic.  Down to earth!  Meat and Potatoes- All American!!  

OK then- just go back to "real American values"!

We have strayed oh so far, and we are paying the price....with our health!

How to Make Yourself Fat and Sick!

It's really no trick to make yourself fat and sick- just follow standard medical advice and common wisdom:

Eat a low calorie, low fat diet!

This will ensure that you are constantly hungry, which will cause your body to be scared that it is starving.  Your metabolism will slow, and your body will put a high priority on storing body fat!


Cut WAY back on eating fats, since everyone knows that eating fat is what makes you fat!

Now you will be really hungry, all the time, since good fats are what satiate our appetite.  You will constantly be "grazing" for food, probably in the form of grains and sugars...

Exercise more and eat less!

Now, you're really upping the ante- your exercise, if your follow the standard advice, will be cardio in nature- brisk walking, jogging, aerobics, spin classes... Your body will respond by losing muscle, since  this low level of working out tells your body that you need to be lighter, and muscle tissue is heavy- so, your body answers your demands and uses up muscle to prioritize fat storage for those long sessions of low exertion.

Eat plenty of "healthy whole grains"!

This is where our government gets involved.  Ever check out the USDA's "My Food Plate", which replaces their old "Food Pyramid"?  They recommend you eat 6-12 servings of grains per day!  Bread, pasta, cereal, skim milk(aka sugar-in-a-glass).  Your body will respond by spiking insulin, since whole wheat grains raise insulin faster and higher than a Snickers bar! Insulin is, among other things, a fat storage signal, and an aging hormone as well.  But heck, the US Dept. of Agriculture has lots of grains to sell, since they subsidize big Ag farmers to grow them...

Go to the Doctor frequently, and take all the medicines he suggests!

Statin drugs, which have side effects like muscle wasting, cancer, joint pain, and weight gain might be a good place to start.  It's a multi-billion dollar industry selling these drugs, and even though it probably won't reduce your risk of a heart attack at all, at least you're doing your patriotic duty- spending lots of money, staying sick (and getting sicker), and supporting big Agriculture, big Pharmaceuticals, and the payoffs they make to big Government and the Medical Schools.


So, there you have it in a nutshell: how to get fat and sick!  

What?  You want to achieve the opposite?!

A Brief Guide to Grains- the Good, the Bad, the Ugly!

WHEAT:  This grain is truly "the devil's excrement" in the words of Robb Wolf.  I can think of no reason to consume it at all!  After cooking and processing, which is the only way we can even consume it, it's nutrient density is quite poor...

In addition, all of our modern wheat since the 1970's is altered to make it produce vastly more.  This sounds good, but what they did, pre-the Genetically Modified era, was to expose the wheat to radiation to force it to modify quickly.  This resulted in a "Frankenstein" type of wheat- hugely productive, but vastly altered from what was originally created from Nature - it really has very little in common with the original, Biblical wheat plant.

If you need more convincing, go to Wheat Belly.  Cardiologist Dr. William Davis has written a book of the same name, and his blog goes into depth on what has happened to our modern wheat.

You'll never look the same at bread, or pasta, or- well, nowadays just about every processed food!  They are all loaded with this devil wheat, because hey- our Government subsidizes it!


CORN:  This grain is also problematic...  it seems far less likely to cause problems, as long as it is a very occasional indulgence.  It does have anti-nutrients, and now almost all of the corn available is GMO (genetically modified organism) which is not good- but better than what was done to wheat!  There's really very little good about corn, but the occasional ear of sweet corn, or bi-monthly bowl of non GMO popcorn, which is readily available from the Amish hereabouts, is kind of like a vehicle to bring nutrient-rich pastured Kerrygold butter and sea salt into your mouth!

Corn chips with salsa, on occasion, are also vastly superior to the other "Chips" on the market!

SOY: This BAD grain gets a halo- it has been promoted as a healthy, low fat, high protein choice- BULL!  After devil WHEAT, this is the second most noxious "food-like substance" around...

It was (and is) consumed in Asia, but only in a fermented, very small amount kind of way.  Here in America we just grind it up, unfermented, and use it as is!  It's not really a grain at all- it's a legume, which like other beans is very problematic for our digestive/gut health.  Here is a list of it's "benefits" from the Weston A Price foundation- Soy is bad!

Soy promotes the production of estrogen in males, which is really bad, and even in women, this is bad!
More of the plant's protective "poisoning" of the mammals that consume it; making them unable to reproduce...  Just say NO to soy!

So there you have it!  In a word, grains are BAD, despite the USDA wanting to get you to eat them to get rid of the surplus that they have been subsidizing since the 1970's at the expense of real foods, like vegetables, and fruits, and grass fed cattle.

BOTTOM LINE?- JUST EAT REAL FOOD!

Paleo Pull ups and Pushups ALL DAY LONG!

I have been planning to increase my numbers of pull ups and pushups; a worthy goal indeed!  I usually top out at about 18 pull ups or chin ups (pull ups are where your hands grasp the bar with a forward grip, chins with your grip facing back at your face).  I also have a set of "handles" in my garage, that are flexible and kind of sideways, so I can cover lots of different angles to hit the muscles in different ways.

Anyway, I figure I need more volume to get me higher numbers of reps!  Experimenting, I found that I can do, let's say 15 reps at a time, but I can do 5 reps ALL DAY LONG!  


That's right, if I limit my reps to 5, and periodically as the day goes by do 5 more, and 5 more, and so on, buy the end of the day I've done maybe 100 or more repetitions!  Plus, since today is Sunday, where i usually do a real basement/outdoor type of workout, I'll do my usual 18 reps, followed by more sets of less reps...

That's a lot of pull ups!  I think that this will be beneficial in a big way; I also decided to add in pushups as well, since I have a perfect pushup device right next to my pull up handles in the garage.  Each time I pass by, or think about it, I'll do my 5 pull ups, and then 20 pushups, since 20 pushups appears to be the number I can do all day long.

It's the morning now; I will let you know how it goes later today...


... I'm back!

I did my Sunday workout early, and decided NOT to do my usual high rep pullups- I just kept doing 5 reps pull ups and 20 reps pushups- between each other exercise I did.  I've not been counting- I like to go by "feel", not numbers, and all I can say is I've done a lot of pull ups, a lot of pushups, and I don't feel at all burnt out, and plan to do lots more!


I think I'm on to something here- not something to do every day, but maybe once a month or so, just do lots and lots of one particular exercise you want to improve!

Let's say you can do 10 pull ups.  Try this same idea, but limit your reps to 3!

"But Jay but Jay!" I hear you saying "I can't do a single pull up! What about me??"


Just support yourself on a stool, so you can assist yourself with your legs.  Use your legs just enough that you can do a few reps, slowly. Here is a blog of mine that explains, and even has live examples!

 leg assisted "aerobic/isometric" chins and dips

Perhaps you can already to a "negative" chin, perhaps not- if not, again, use your legs to help just enough that you move slowly downwards.  It really will not be all that long that you can do a real, unassisted chin or pull up, and that is a real accomplishment!  Lifting your own bodyweight with your upper body is probably the most functional exercise you can do- real world strength indeed!  It engages not only your arms and back, but your entire core, abdominals, and grip.  Anyone who can do this exercise, even one single rep, is a paleo person; they could survive handily in the wild, just like our ancestors did.  Most people, even children these days, cannot do this exercise!


Especially if you are a woman- I would really focus on this movement/exercise!  Using the leg assisted version, you can start doing the actual exercise immediately.  Chin/pull ups and hindu squats together will make a paleo person of you.

Again, I plan to do a lot of these little mini-sets today!  I'm going to go out by my grill, by the garage, and will repeatedly be doing pull ups and pushups while I grill my chicken and salmon and mushrooms...  I was playing guitar earlier, and stopped often to do a set of pushups- (no pull up bars in  the computer room here).  Kind of a fun challenge really!

I could see doing this periodically with many exercises- perhaps doing 50 hindu squats, over and over and over throughout a Sunday...  what fun!  I'll keep you posted-

Buy your Paleo Food locally!

Buy your food locally- from a farmer or butcher you know and respect!  This video encapsulates it all:



Our food supply has been so adulterated, that we hardly even know it anymore.


Our meat, in particular, used to come from a local, trusted farmer; someone everybody knew and trusted.  Let's go back to Andy Griffith and the town of Mayberry where most of us grew up; and if not us, then our parents or grandparents:

"Well Rafe Hollister- I do declare!  Those are the healthiest cattle I have seen- yes SIR!  Your pasture looks so green, I say so GREEN I could almost eat the grass myself! And healthy- those cattle look so healthy- MMMM!!  Wrap me up a quarter beef Rafe- and I'll see you in church this Sunday!"






That's how it used to be, somehow we fool ourselves into thinking that somehow it still is...











But when we go to Wal-Mart, or virtually any modern grocery store, what we are really getting these days is factory farmed, grain force-fed, and loaded up with anti-biotic and hormone laden tortured animals.


Do you think that Rafe, or Andy would be all happy and approving of these "well raised animals?"

Irregardless of the fact that these animals are basically in animal concentration camps: 


The bottom line is that this creates incredibly UNHEALTHY MEAT!


If this had been an old episode of the wonderful Andy Griffith show, the rest of the show would be about rescuing the animals!!

Barney might even use his one bullet to shoot the (corporate) "farmer"who ran this slimy operation!

I have been exploring tonight on the internet- here are some ideas for you:

Eat Wild

Go to that website above, and search your state!  Here in Wisconsin, I found dozens of family farms that humanely raise cattle on grass (which they are meant to eat- God made them so!), free range chickens that eat bugs, and worms, and scratch in the grass, etc.; realizing their ultimate "chicken-ness", and PIGS that are free to burrow, and wallow, and achieve perfect "pigness", as they were intended to as well, by God!

Go connect with a farmer!  Someone like Rafe from Mayberry- someone you can trust, and you can get to know as a neighbor.

Don't buy from FACTORY FARMS that just want to make "maximum product with minimum input"-


You will get what you pay for!


And besides, wouldn't you rather pay your money to Rafe, than send it off to Mount Pilate, or even Raleigh??!!

Beginning Paleo Diet

Maybe you've just been hearing about this "paleo diet" thing, or maybe you have a friend or know someone who has had amazing results from eating and living according to this template...


Perhaps you have tried to ignore the whole thing, not wanting to change your life and mindset around after all these years of being brainwashed into the low fat high carb Standard American Diet LIE...


But, since the ancestral diet and it's benefits are very real, and the path we are on in the Western world is leading us into slow suicide by eating ourselves into diabesity,  accompanied by prescriptions of pharmaceutical drugs that compromise our health even more with all of the inevitable side effects, resulting in early disability and death- well, "going Paleo" starts to not sound that hard after all!

So, how do you finally get off the sidelines and start making meaningful, healing change??


Clean out your cupboards!  Ditch the grains- bread, pancake mixes, brownie mixes, cereals, vegetable and soy oils, Crisco, anything you have that is not real food.  If it's not in your house, you won't eat it.

Try a Paleo smoothie!  This is a pet project of mine- I have developed my smoothie into a drink that is continually evolving, since I want to maximize my nutrition optimally, but starting out, keep it simple:

Just get out your standard, $20 blender, and make a simple Paleo Smoothie:

1 can of coconut milk
handful of fresh strawberries
a big leaf of fresh kale
a banana
sprinkle of cinnamon

Blend it all together for about a minute or so- you're done!

Easy, right?  It's so easy, you will start to think as I did- "Hey, what if I add this ingredient, and that other super healthy food, and then that..."


You are on the slippery slope to health my friend, and trust me, that's where you want to be!  You'll start adding raw eggs, and then you'll want the convenience of using frozen vegetables, and the ability to mix just about anything, smoothly and easily into your smoothies- at that point you'll want to get a Vitamix blender, since it it the best tool for engineering the most amazingly healthy and filling and appetizing Paleo smoothies on the planet!

Interestingly, I just read a news story in Barron's, the business newspaper, detailing how the Starbucks chain has bought a smoothie making chain of restaurants, and plans to expand dramatically, doing for smoothies what they have already done for coffee!

While I'm sure it's better than the unhealthy coffee drink market they've been profiting from at the expense of the American people's health, I would suggest strongly that you make your own!  I guarantee that anything made by a corporate giant will be vastly inferior, since the bottom line for such a company is to cut costs wherever possible, to maximize profits. This means low quality ingredients, cheaper, faster, worser! (There, I invented a word!)

So, Go Paleo Young Man! (Or woman)!

At first, I would just make a smoothie each morning, and eat eggs and meat, salads, seafood, veggies and nuts with a little fruit sometimes.  For me, cheese and whole cream are fine- try them out, if you feel worse, maybe they aren't for you!  Some folks can handle dairy, some can't... raw dairy is vastly preferable, if available.  

Believe it or not, at first I do not recommend any exercise!  Especially, if your are a "cardio-holic", used to doing lots of running, bicycling, aerobics, etc. just stop for awhile!  Getting your diet in order is far more important than exercise, and along with adequate sleep each night of 8 hours or better, will get you 90% where you want to go.  Just concentrate on those things for a month- learn to eat, and sleep like a paleolithic hunter-gatherer.    Next month we'll add in exercise- hey, I even have an eBook specifically about it...

A good idea, especially if you currently have health problems, would be to have a blood work up just before starting this at the Doctor's office.  Then, a month later, have it done again.  I guarantee the results will startle both you and your Doctor- and then, he'll probably try to talk you out of doing something so "crazy"...

The thing to remember is this- even if all you had read about nutrition was this one blog, you would already know more about nutrition than your Doctor learned in all of medical school.  So, take his or her opinions with more than a grain of good sea salt...

After your initial month, take a good look at how you look, how clearly you can think,and how you feel.  Perhaps you already have had some drastic changes; many people do.  And after actually sticking to the diet for one month, almost no one goes back to their standard diet!  The benefits are that compelling- you may even become like me, shouting the news from the rooftops, because you almost can't believe the benefits of eating real food like a real person!

Independence Day, the Founding Fathers, Paleo diet, and Conservatism


Independence Day!  So what does that have to do with Paleo living?  Well, quite a bit, as it turns out...

The founding fathers of America had a strong vision of what they wanted this new country to be!  They wanted to escape the class structure that had so stratified the countries of Europe; the prevailing vision was of a country of small farms, where each family was largely independent and self-reliant.  Most of the settlers in America were of English stock at this time, and they were acutely aware of the top down, autocratic, controlling nature of that society: they meant to avoid that!  

And, for a long time, our country was pretty much what our Founding Fathers had envisioned- small, largely independent, self-supporting small towns, peopled by small, local businesses and small, well-run family farms that grew a wide variety of crops and a variety of animals.  Government was largely local,  and so those who lived within a community were pretty much the ones that ran it!  Charity was provided by the local churches, not government.

Things began to change in the 1960's, and by the '70's we had really started to go a different, dangerous path- ironically, we started to turn more into a European, top-down, big Government and big Food corporations and big Medical all started to morph into GIANTS.  Probably the main way this power was concentrated was by the advances into media: Television, especially was perfect for gradually brainwashing people into believing things that, before they were constantly being bombarded with such ideas, they would have found ridiculous, just by using their common sense!  Things like:
  1. Fat is bad!  Don't eat butter- eat margarine, which is a kind of fake, industrial seed oil we'd like to sell to you, rather than to pay for its disposal.
  2. Eggs are bad!  Instead of eating the eggs your own chickens lay, eat a big bowl (or two!) of processed grains, wheat and corn, from these great cereal boxes we will gladly sell you!
  3. Meat is bad!  Red meat is a "heart attack on a plate!"   Eat this soy stuff; it tastes like pretty much nothing, but we will gladly sell it to you in all sorts of shapes and forms.
  4. Grains are wholesome!  Make them the foundation of your diet, even though your ancestors hardly ate any at all (unless they had to), and they thrived on a diet of meat, eggs, veggies, fruits and nuts... we will gladly put grains into almost any product you buy, and we will engineer them to be positively addictive.  You will eat them all day long, day after day!
  5. You are all sick.  You need the government to tell you how to eat, and you all need lots of medicines; statins, insulin for your diabetes, gastric bypass operations since you are all fat since you don't walk on your treadmill enough, and you are still eating too much fat.
  6. This is how it's been going since then, with the top-down, autocratic Government itself taking more and more authority away from us as individuals, and increasingly telling us what we should eat, how we should exercise, what medicines we should be taking, taxing us at ever-increasing rates because they know much better how to spend our money on the common good than we do ourselves.

Today, July 4 2012, let's remember the spirit of those original Founding Fathers of the United States, who would be 100% behind the Paleo diet's notions of buying food locally- growing it locally, eating wholesome, real foods prepared in your own kitchen instead of in a factory, and eating all foods from local, trusted sources that raise their animals humanely, feeding them grass if that is what they are meant to eat by Nature and God.  We need to get away from the control of the New Self Appointed Royalty of America today:  Big Government, Big Medicine, Big Food!

Luckily, we can take back control- Television is on the wane, who watches commercials any more, for that matter who watches the evening news?  We don't need "filtered" news anymore; now we have the internet!  We can read the unvarnished truth instead!

The original American Revolution was a profoundly conservative revolution.  Nothing really like it had come before.  The French revolution, in fact virtually all other revolutions have been liberal, left wing, "Power to the people" socialist revolutions; ours was totally unique in that it was conservative, 
saying not to "take away from everyone else to share", which results in the powerful ones in the revolution itself just taking it all for themselves, and their cronies. 

In the American revolution, afterwards we were all free to provide for ourselves.  This is a profound difference, and resulted in the single most successful governmental experiment in history.  I think the only other political system on that level is the ancient Greek city-state; but then our American revolution incorporated most of their ideas from that earlier "experiment".

So, let's get back to our roots!  Think for yourself.  Don't listen to self-appointed "experts" that are shills of big corporations.  Read the real science behind things; don't get the "filtered" versions.  Here is a brief video featuring Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms, who really has this thing of sustainable agriculture, as the founding fathers of America intended, all figured out:

War of the WHEAT!

For millennia, we were persecuted, cannibalized, and enslaved by the humans!


Our revenge was nigh!


The invasion plan was almost perfect!  First, the deceptors would invade, and they would make themselves... welcome.  They would be innocuous; friendly little foodstuffs, just begging to be eaten...


Only later, much later would their true nature be revealed.  First, the deceptors, (for so they had named themselves), would pretend to be the saviors of mankind- you are facing starvation- your numbers are rising- we will save you!  And so, with this gift for mankind, they would be embraced by the fearful populace, who were indeed multiplying at a startling rate, and would indeed be starving without help...

The deceptors worked their way into every crevice of the food supply- they used to be used only in simple bread and rolls; after a time, after they multiplied, they were in almost everything:






They engineered manufactured products, that put them into all staple products- now, the deceptors were inside fast-food meats, salads, even desserts!  Your average human could hardly avoid consuming the deceptors now!  


THE HATED HUMANS WOULD ALL DIE!!

First, they would consume the "wholesome"deceptors!  Next, their own bodies would be deceived, as toxins would now be allowed into their bloodstreams, invading them, and instigating widespread disease- DIABETES- HEART DISEASE- OBESITY- CANCER!!

The unsuspecting humans continued on... they loved the deceptors!  Hunger was solved!  A New Millenium was upon the Human Race!!  

Humans embraced the deceptors!!

Now, the humans were dying!  They were obese, slowly dying of diabetes and heart disease.  Cancer was rampant: no human could expect to be free- virtually ALL humans were now addicted to prescription drugs, which were far more deadly than recreational drugs! 

The deceptors had WON!  Humanity, which had eaten their babies for a thousand years, had been destroyed: 

The GRAIN of WHEAT, cannabilized  for 10,000 years has had it's revenge!!


Humans will die!  Their own bodies will willingly accept the invaders, thinking them "friends"...  the deceptors will mimic the patterns of the body's own defense systems, and will be let inside as "allies"...

And so they DIE!!

WE HATE OUR OPPRESSORS!

AND WE ARE WHEAT!!

Let food be thy medicine- transform yourself!

Late afternoon snack today!  It is true that eating Paleo does not mean "deprivation" in any sense of the word...                                
“Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food.” 

This is a quote from Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine.  All physicians take the "Hippocratic Oath" upon becoming doctors, and that makes it all the more remarkable that they do not recommend changing your diet to cure illness!  What Doctors do now, they just basically consult a chart, conveniently provided by their drug company providers, to find exactly which drug to prescribe for which complaint!  Hard to believe, but true- medical doctors have become simple drug pushers for the big pharmaceutical companies!  

There is really no longer an effort to cure the disease.  Just treat the symptoms... and then deal with the many side-effects... with additional drugs!

I say get off the medical "roller coaster"!  Eat real foods.  Do real paleo-type exercise movements.  Ditch the Damn Grains!!  It really is that simple, it's just hard to fight back against all the propaganda, marketing, and the "granny pushers"! (These last are our beloved grandmothers and maiden aunts, who, well meaning, insist we eat the birthday cake, the cookies, the pies, etc. that they made (or just bought!) for us!  This can be a trigger that sends us back into "big food addiction", and all we can think about the next day is ...whatever it is they gave us!  

Thanks, Granny pusher!!

Anyway, the best thing to do with Granny pushers is to just explain that we can't eat grains, we have a medical condition- celiac would do...

Modern Medicine is NOTHING like the medical establishment that we grew up with in the 1940's and '50's (or even the 60's and 70's...)

It has morphed into a giant, profit/centered Behemoth, intent only on massive, continual profits, at the expense of all of our health!  And no, I am not exaggerating.

Not to spoil the ending, but by day 365, one short year later, he is 160 pounds, healthy as a horse, and free of all disease.  All by firing his Doctor and becoming knowledgable and responsible about his own health!

Paleo Health Plan!

We all have lots of plans!    Financial plans- saving for college for the kids.  Retirement savings.... Investment plans... even elaborate plans for our next vacation are quite important to us!

How many of us have a plan for our health?

Almost none of us, strangely enough, since our health is the most important thing we have- if we lose our health, all of our money and possessions become "dust"; only useful insofar as they can help us to regain our most precious possession, our health!

So, in all of our incessant planning, what should we do under the heading: HEALTH  ?

I have some suggestions, but feel free to write your own list.  Just make sure to PLAN and have a list!

  1. Dial in your diet- nothing is more important to your health than what you eat!  Mainstream medical practitioners will disagree (they have virtually no nutritional training), but diet is key to your health.
  2. Diet guidelines:  Eliminate grains!  (Wheat, corn, soy) Snacks, processed foods, fast foods... Easy to say, hard to do.  But this is the most important step of all!  Just do it!!
  3. Cut sugar down to almost nothing.  Again, easy to say... but do it for your health!
  4. Sleep 8 hours per night!  Every night!  Turn off the computer/TV!!  DO IT!!
  5. Now, the easy part:  fire up your Vitamix every morning, and make yourself and your family a Paleo Smoothie- veggies and fruits, coconut milk, cod liver oil, and spices- this is so key to implementing a healthy diet, simply and easily, that I can't stress it enough- get a Vitamix, a bunch of frozen veggies, and frozen berries, and make a green smoothie daily!    The recipe I use is on my blog- feel free to copy and improve and improvise!
Do brief, but intense exercise!  Pushups, straight leg situps, hindu squats; or do virtual resistance exercises Perfectly Paleo Exercise  Shameless plug, but it is for your own good!

That's it!  Go back to making lists, and plans...

Just put HEALTH at the very top!

Back to the Paleo Future!

You know the notion of "progress"?  The idea that we are forever moving forwards to a better future?

I believe that, for quite some time, we have been moving backwards, regressing rather than progressing, at least insofar as our health is concerned.  

Remember the movie "Back to the Future"?  

It was a singularly great movie, since it resonated with us all: we all knew that things had gotten gradually worse in America since the 1950's and 60's...

Think of how when Marty McFly is in the "present day", 1985:

His mother is a drunk- his father is a loser, his brother and sister are as well....
BIFF  is MARTY MC FLY'S FATHERS  BOSS!

In a nutshell, this is 2012 America!  The lowest have taken over!  Big Pharma- Drug companies, Giant multi-national food Cartels, MONSANTO the -PRIMO ARCHITECT OF GMO, genetically modified food are all  
in charge!!
Again, my point is that in this scenario, BIFF,  a loser in every sense of the word is in charge!

I believe that this is what in effect has actually happened.  

Instead of the community-minded folks; well, let's again quote a classic movie- "It's a Wonderful Life"-

Now, we don't have the "George Bailey Savings and Loan" people in charge of society- 

WE HAVE MR. POTTER/BIFF's FATHER (AND BIFF) in charge!!

See what I mean?  

We have all been so misled, via marketing since our infancy, that the real-life losers, that we would have easily recognized as such had they been living in our "tribe" or small town, have been credentialed via marketing to have the authority they have always been conniving towards...

and now they have it!   

The BULLY in the class, the most self-serving guy of all, the guy-who-needed-to-prove-himself-to-cover-up-his-own-obvious-inadequacies...

IS NOW IN CHARGE!!

I don't want to get too carried away, maybe I already have!  But I will say this:

Things were definitely better in 1955- less governmental intrusion.  NO government telling us "what to eat"!  Exercise was Charles Atlas dynamic tension, aka Visualized Resistance as pictured above, and music was Elvis Presley and his ilk- the real deal- basic, simple chord progressions with heartfelt, simple lyrics that everyone could resonate with!

In 1985, when the movie was made...........

Aerobics was king!  Run until you drop!  Music- forget about it-  bad enough- not worth mentioning!

And NOW?

Really, BIFF is in charge- Big Pharma, Big Medical, Big Food- they run Big Government!

I sound so conspiratorial, but then again, it's all true!  

Bottom line: what are we all to do?

Well first, you could buy my ebook!  (seriously- cure thyself first!) perfectly paleo exercise 

Just eat real food, and do real exercise!  (simple, but oh-so-true!)

After that?   Not to sound like a 1960's hippie, but "Buy Local, Eat Local" would be the way to go.  Grow what you can, and what you can't, but from someone that you know and trust.  The local Farmers' Market.  A neighbor!

You know, that's old Herakles to the right- a real fitness icon, just like Charles Atlas above.  

Both had similar strategies for life and fitness:

Eat real foods, and perform real functional exercises.

I'd like to say both of them bought my ebooks........in my dreams!

But BOTH of them could have WRITTEN THEM!

Paleo Ice Cream!

AKA "bulletproof" ice cream, from bulletproof executive


Paleo Ice Cream

Ingredients
  • 4 whole eggs (pastured of course)
  • 4 yolks (in addition to the whole eggs above)
  • 2 tsp vanilla 
  • 1 gram vitamin C (ascorbic acid) or 10 drops apple cider vinegar or lime juice to taste.
  • 100 grams (7 tbs) grass-fed butter
  • 100 grams (7tbs) coconut oil
  • 50 grams (3tbs + 2tsp) MCT oil (important for consistency)
  • 80 grams (5.5tbs) xylitol or erythritol (or more to taste – you can add up to 160 grams if you want)
  • OR raw honey and/or stevia....
  • ice (just under 1/2 cup; add less than you think you need, then increase the amount).
Methods
  1. Blend everything but the water/ice in blender. It takes a while to get the butter blended into perfect creaminess.
  2. Add water or ice and blend some more until well blended. Ideally, you want a yogurt-like consistency for creamy ice cream, or add more water for a firmer, icier texture
  3. Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and turn it on.
This will make perfect consistency ice cream. 


I mean, what could be better than a perfectly healthy ice cream??  Party down!!

Hungry For Change!

Spirulina powder- the latest super-food addition to the Paleo Smoothie!






Just when you thought you'd seen everything that could be crammed into a Vitamix blender, well... you haven't!  Trust me, I don't make "changes for the sake of change". Only when I find something that is a real improvement to the Paleo Smoothie, (which I think is a lynchpin in the foundation of a truly Paleo-esque, nutrition packed lifestyle); only then to I change the "formula"!

Here is the latest addition to the Paleo Smoothie- about 1 Tablespoon per canister of spirulina powder.

Suffice it to say, this blue/green algae called spirulina is not the same ingredient we use called Kelp.  Both are great additions; but kelp is a seaweed, and while loaded with micro-nutrients, it is a significant source of iodine.  A strict paleo diet can sometimes be lacking here, so I think including kelp is an excellent strategy!

Spirulina is, again, an algae, and has a different nutrient profile than kelp.  Both are great, but spirulina has the advantage of being a big helper in weight loss, and is also a super protein supplement- it is a complete protein, (like eggs or meat) which is very unusual in a plant source.

In other words, spirulina somehow manages to be "plant-animal-fresh-water seafood", all in one!

Here is an interesting tidbit:

Some scientists speculate that the "manna" of the wandering Israelites, which appeared miraculously on rocks following a devastating dry spell and was described as tasting "like wafers made with hone " may have been a form of dried, dormant Spirulina.

So, if it could keep the Israelites alive in their wanderings, just think what Spirulina can do for you!
