The green smoothie cure


A green smoothie, all by itself, pretty much cures everything!
I know, that sounds like crazy talk, but I assure that it is true. How can this be true?

Well, simply by taking a handful or so of greens, adding in a can of coconut milk, some kefir, green tea, fresh or frozen cruciferous veggies like broccoli & cauliflower, & a couple of raw eggs, a peeled lemon with a handful of berries-then blending it all together in a high speed blender like a Vitamix - why, you are packing your body with so much nutrition that you can't HELP but be healthy!
And not only is it a load of nutrients that pretty much no modern person ever gets to eat- this nutrient dense drink also inevitably displaces all of the crap you might eat instead of the smoothie- the toast, the donuts, the candy and all the other stuff people nowadays eat and drink instead of real foods! You simply are completely full and satisfied, and find that you just are not thinking about, or tempted by processed foods.

Then, if you are like me, & add in cod liver oil, ginger, apple cider vinegar, turmeric, cinnamon, vitamin D liquid,kelp powder, and whatever other nutrient powerhouses you have handy (you certainly don't need to follow a recipe), you will find that you can easily make a smoothie of one variety or another. Variety is great, and actually makes it even more certain that you will never have the little nutritional “holes” most people have in their diets.

I'm convinced that it is because of these “holes” of nutritional lacking, people are constantly hungry.

They try to fulfill this hunger by endless snacking and eating- but since they never fill the basic NUTRIENT NEEDS , the body keeps sending hunger signals.

To no avail! If you just eat nutrient poor, calorie rich food- you will always be hungry, and yet ironically malnourished.

In other words, you will just continually store more ands more fat, while your poor body sickens from lack of nutrition!

I honestly think that, were you to do just ONE THING for your health, it would be to drink a daily green smoothie. Nothing else you can do comes close to that one simple solution..

Paleo Quick Tip of the Day #122 Paleo Basics 2



Last Wednesday we talked about Paleo Basics 1, which is just to give up gluten, mainly in the form of wheat!  I hope you have done it this past week, and that you already notice a difference.  The positive effects come on quite quickly, and continue the longer you maintain a gluten free lifestyle.  Weight loss, an ending to a “bloated feeling” and a distended stomach are usually the first to happen. 
In my case, years ago I got migraine headaches.  They were awful, they started in my late 40’s, and they got progressively worse and more frequent.  Then, when I gave up wheat, the disappeared completely.  It wasn’t a gradual thing, they just stopped, and I have never had a headache since, of any kind! 
Of course, that alone was worth it, but there have been many additional positive effects: much better skin, clear and no dryness, much more definition both of face and body, shinier hair; the list goes on and on.  All from just giving up one thing- wheat.
Now, as phase two of Paleo living, I’m asking you not to give anything up, but to add things IN!  Nutrient Dense foods are foods that are loaded with the vitamins and enzymes and just everything your body needs to thrive and be super healthy.  And the very best way to achieve that is with a Green Paleo Smoothie!
My paperback book, which also is available in Kindle, has my complete smoothie recipe, which I recommend you, like me, drink a jar or glass of each and every day.  You will need a good blender; the Vitamix I have is great, but even a Nutri-bullet or one like that is OK.  The Vitamix is perfect for blending up a large quantity though, and then you can store them in canning jars in the fridge, ready for the next few days of top notch super nutrition.
That is really the foundation of your nutrition, since you can put all the greens, kefir, avocado, lemon, berries, apple cider vinegar, and all the rest into one convenient, tasty beverage.  Then, just have a big salad for lunch, put on some tuna mixed with salmon salad, or beef, or chicken, and make yourself a great dressing!  The reason I say to make your own, is that there are almost NO commercial salad dressings you can find that don’t use vegetable oils, which are really bad for you, and are more accurately called industrial seed oils because of the intense chemical processing they undergo to make oils out of hard seeds.  Not natural at all, and almost all Omega 6 fats. 
To make your own is really easy, and they taste so much better.  Here is a link to a few recipes that I’ve used:

Most use olive oil instead of awful soybean or canola oil; I particularly like the Apple Cider Vinegar dressing, which is 1 cup olive oil, 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar, with onion powder, mustard powder, garlic, thyme, basil, and sea salt.  Just put it all in a jar, shake, and it’s done.  Enough for quite a few tasty salads, and all very, very nutritious!

After your morning smoothie, and your lunchtime salad, just grill out some good grass fed steaks, some ribs, and sometimes a baked potato with sour cream, grass fed butter, and sea salt.  Snacks can be mixed nuts and cans of sardines, with an occasional (daily, for me!) piece of dark chocolate.  Cooked veggies are also great with your dinner, and loaded with nutrients as well.

This is not a diet per se, or a starvation type of meal plan at all!  It is crucial to get enough nutrients, not to deprive yourself of quality foods.  You do cut the wheat, and thereby all of the processed just snack foods at the same time, since they are mostly made of wheat, and processed corn and vegetable oils.  But everything else is about adding in as much quality nutritional foods as you can!  The OPPOSITE of what we think of as a diet.  With top quality nutrition, your body can heal, build, and optimize your physical, and mental self!

That’s right- build your health naturally, and very effectively by imbibing a magical elixir each day:

 A Paleo Green Smoothie!

Sometimes I feel a bit funny that I harp on this one thing so much, but it really is that important.  Just by whipping up several days worth of smoothie in your Vitamix blender, and then drinking one glass that morning, and saving the rest in 3 or 4 Ball canning jars in the fridge; well, that brief bit of efforts not only supplies you with the perfect breakfast for most of the week, but it also insures your perfect health for the week!

Really, you have just supplied your body (and mind!) with complete and total nutrition, in a concentrated form, and in the totally natural form of real food.  This is key, since supplements made from chemicals are just a guessing game, and can easily be too much of one and not enough of another, and so put your body out of balance in proportions of nutrients.

Let your Vitamix do the chewing for you!  It will “chew” your veggies, and all else you put into your magical smoothie elixir, even if those foods are frozen.  It will all become an easily assimilable liquid, one which your digestive system can easily break down and take immediate advantage of.
The other thing your Paleo Green Smoothie will do is to take away your hunger!  It really does this well, since it is so loaded with everything your body is constantly crying out for, and almost never gets enough of, unless you eat a diet exclusively of grass fed liver, and lots and lots and lots of dark green leafy veggies.  And that means several BIG salads per day, and LOTS of chewing... did you know Paleo people of old had really strong jaws, but their teeth, while perfectly healthy, often were worn down from the endless chewing they needed to accomplish eating enough vegetables and little root tubers? Especially since this was before anyone knew to wash veggies or roots (or animal carcasses!), and just ate them with the dirt on!  That’s a lot of stress on your poor teeth...

With a smoothie, you just- swallow!  Save your chewing for the grass fed steak you have later, perhaps with a baked potato and just ONE salad. (For fun and taste!)

The Ball jars of smoothie are also perfect to take with you for an easy lunch or snack.  I like to couple a smoothie, a tin of sardines, and a square or two of dark chocolate for dessert... what a perfect fast, cheap, and really nutritious lunch on the go- no preparation, just put in your lunch box and go.
