Paleo diet and Dental Health

And skin, and hair health as well!  It is strange, but true, that the overall health of your teeth and gums, along with other "ancillary" markers of health, are all related to diet.

I know this is not what we've been taught, and led to believe by the authority figures in our lives since we were little children-

"Just keep you teeth clean!  Brush and floss, brush and floss, and all will be well!"


Well, I'm here to tell you-  "It just ain't so!"


Weston A. Price, back in the 1930's, traveled the world, and found examples of the healthiest teeth and actual jaw formations he had ever seen... among primitive tribespeople who had never even heard of a toothbrush.  (His organization is still alive and well- Weston A. Price foundation )


You can have the cleanest, most debris-free mouth and teeth in the world, and if your diet is lacking in vital nutrients, you will have horrible teeth.  And, in addition, even if you wash your face and hair religiously, both your hair and your skin, given a bad, nutrient poor diet, will be unhealthy and unattractive as well.  BUT- given a nutrient dense diet, your body can actually remineralize bones and teeth!  And rejuvenate your hair and skin- it works both ways.


The reason for this is common sense, from your bodies point of view:  It has a whole body, vital processes and all, to run!  It also needs to "rebuild" parts that are broken down, but overall it just needs to keep the whole thing going- this is the human organisms ultimate job- to keep on keeping' on!


If you are eating a S.A.D American diet of say, cereal with skimmed milk and banana for breakfast (sugar, with sugar and more sugar from the bodies point of view), have a sandwich from a fast food place and fries and a soft drink for lunch (more sugar, trans fats, industrial seed oils and chemicals) not to mention the anti-nutrients from the cereal and bread that are busy punching holes in your gut lining),  and wrap it all up with a nice big pizza (more grains/anti-nutrients that supply your starving body with more sugar, along with tiny little bits of quasi-meat and vegetables), well-

You are starving your body of the vital nutrients it needs !  Your body goes into "survival mode"-

Pull minerals from the teeth and bones, from the skin, and from the hair!  
Nice to have, but who cares about looking good when actual survival is at stake??

It's kind of a natural triage decision:  Save the vital processes, save life itself!  Throw the "pretty baubles" overboard, and save the ship!!

The moral of the story?  Rule #1- eat a nutrient rich, paleo type diet!
                                       Rule #2- don't eat non-foods, like grains, sugars, and industrial seed oils

#1 ensures that you will have all the nutrients your body needs to protect all of itself.

#2 saves your gut lining so it can actually really digest these great foods well, and extract all of their crucial nutrients to use!

So, the next time you fire up your Vitamix, and make your Paleo Smoothie loaded with the most nutrient-dense super foods you can find

Look in a mirror as you drink it!

Your teeth, skin, and hair will all thank you!

Free for Chubbies! A Paleo Answer!

Really, who wants to be a "Chubbie"??

Especially, a girl?  


The modern solution is... exercise more, and eat less.  Mainly, less fat.  Eat lots of healthy whole grains, skim milk, breakfast cereal with skim milk, and whole grain bread with margarine.


Does that sound as typical as I think it does, and given my current mindset, does it sound as stupid as it really is?  I think it does...


So, if you don't want to be a CHUBBIE, what should you do?

It is really quite simple:

1.  Stop eating grains.  No bread, no cereal, no crackers, no snack cakes- NO!
2. Stop eating sugar.  Think of sugar as what it really is- poison.   Would you sprinkle rattlesnake venom on your food?  NO!


Actually, for a  90% improvement in your overall health, not to mention your anti-chubbiness, this is enough.  REALLY!


No grains, no sugar= No Chubbies!


If you want to dial it up a notch, just eliminate that pasteurized skim milk (aka "sugar"), and the industrial seed oils (margarine, Crisco, corn and soy and all the other fake fats)....

Now, not only will you not be a Chubbie, but you are on the road to being a slim, vibrant HEALTHIE!


Start making a morning paleo smoothie in your Vitamix, and you are on your way to being a superhuman!  Nutrition is really way over half of the battle!


If you just make sure that everything that passes your lips is real food, as God made it, you will be on your way to complete health... and UNchubbiness!

New Vitamix!

You might have seen my photo before, holding a soon-to-be Paleo Smoothie in a Vitamix blender...

BUT, it was a blender from about 1985!  Stainless steel, and still going strong!  I plan to put that old timer in our log cabin family hideaway, for top-notch nutrition when away from home.  But for me, cutting-edge as I am in a 100 plus year old farm house- I bought a New Vitamix!


I am rather a minimalist; I don't like to upgrade just for the sake of...newness!  This has sometimes been a negative, as I drive my 1962 pickup to work in January in Wisconsin (mistake!), and sometimes a positive, since my 1985 John Deere tractor is perfect for the mowing and plowing that I need to do.

But, there comes a time when you have to realize that newer really is better- like when I upgraded to a top-of-the-line Mac computer, a new iPhone, and a new Vitamix blender!


Actually, I don't think "blender" is an adequate descriptive term for the Vitamix, since it is the cornerstone of my nutritional bedrock!  I use it for my Paleo Quick Start Smoothie, of course.  Daily.

But I also use it for many other tasks- my Vitamix allows me to take standard, modern foodstuffs and instantly remake recipes into nutritional powerhouses!


Just tonight, the first night of my new Vitamix residing within our "tribe", my daughter wanted ice cream-
no problem- I just made Greek yogurt and strawberry sorbet- in less than 3 minutes!!


She (and I) loved it!

One cool thing, that I think I underrated, is the clear container, along with the variable, really slow to high speed of the blades!  I will be posting videos of this soon- the purely aesthetic joy of watching the layers of fruits, vegetables, and many other ingredients gradually, and at first almost silently commingling
is quite the sight- almost magical.  And the result is so... visceral.  Trust me, you'll like it!

At any rate, if you need any reason to upgrade- here it is!

The new Vitamix 5200 is way better than the older, 1985 version: quieter, more versatile, prettier...
I could go on, but I don't want to insult the old girl, who is still in the family, a steady performer, and a real solid backer to her lineage- Vitamix blenders do not grow old...


And they don't even fade away!  They just last, and last, and last...

And they have that same effect on you, the user-


YOU,  using the nutritional powerhouse of the Vitamix blender, will just last, and last, and last...
