Make Your OWN Supplements!

Really- make your own supplements! 

It’s not hard, and it will save not only your health, but money too.  The secret is to replace or at least add to one meal each day a glass of a smoothie that you make yourself.  I call mine the paleo green smoothie, and I have made it for quite a few years- changing up the ingredients from time to time, depending on what foods I have handy in my refrigerator and freezer. 

For, make no mistake: good, healthy foods are the very best “supplements” you can consume!  You simply take wonderful ancestral types of foods, and combine them in a high speed blender to make the healthiest beverage ever.  Let’s go over what I made today, to last me for at least 4 days:

I always start with a full fat kefir, since it is a great probiotic, and is liquid.  I never measure, just going by intuition.  About a cups worth or more to start.  Then, I add in Vitamin D liquid, ginger powder, turmeric powder, and often kelp powder.  I keep them in spice jars near my blender, so it just takes a moment to shake them all in.

Then, I carry my Vitamix canister around to my refrigerator, and add a couple of raw pastured eggs, apple cider vinegar- just a healthy splash (another great probiotic), some kelp sprouts I had in there I added today, and then I open the freezer.

I add in a healthy pour of California Mix, which is widely available in big frozen bags, and then some greens- today, I had some kelp that I had frozen before so it wouldn’t go bad when I had too much of the fresh stuff.  Then, I added in some frozen cantaloupe, and some mixed frozen berries, along with 1/2 of a banana my wife had left from her own breakfast.  Oh, I also threw in one beet- I discard the greens, since they are loaded with oxalates and are to be avoided.  I kind of ‘forage’ for stuff in my fridge, since I hate for good food to go to waste!

It wasn’t quite as liquid as I’d have liked, so I added in some green tea from my thermos, and blended it up.  I drank a healthy glass, while I poured the rest of the smoothie into clean canning jars that I keep just for that purpose, and stored it all in the fridge.

The whole process takes less than 10 minutes, and is quite enjoyable, since I listen to a podcast or music while I do it- and then- I have my supplements ready for the week.  Much better than pills or potions, and easily obtainable at the grocery store. 

The one thing you do need to have is a good quality, high speed blender- your old $20 cheapie is not going to cut it here.  Vitamix is best, but there are others that will work- I’ll leave it up to you to choose the right one for you and your budget.

Just remember one thing, though: a good blender will last you for at least 10 years- and that’s 10 years of excellent, health producing smoothies!  Pro-rated, it is really a minimal investment overall.  Cheers!

I know, this sounds like a crazy infomercial... but it is TRUE, and actually rather easily achievable- every last bit of it!  How?

As you know, following a Paleo or ancestral type of diet is key for health- but did you know that the easiest, fastest, and most sustainable way to achieve such results is...

It really is that simple!

Take about a handful, or a cupful, or whatever you shake out into your Vitamix blender (no exacting recipes here, thank you!) of mixed frozen or fresh veggies- I like the California Mix from Wal-Mart and most groceries- cauliflower, broccoli, carrots) and then add another handful of either collards, spinach, kale- a leafy green dude!  Whatever you have on hand- fresh or frozen- doesn’t matter!

When you mix this into an instant smoothie meal replacement by adding a liquid like green or white tea, coconut milk, and a little bit of citrus fruit like a lemon, orange, and a handful of berries, fresh or frozen- you are giving your body the most incredible source of nutrients that you possible could offer!  “Hurray YOU” says your body!

You see, most of us are vastly overfed and undernourished. This means that we get too many calories that are devoid of nutrients that our bodies need desperately...

And not nearly enough of the micronutrients that we need to be fit, strong, and healthy!  The GREEN VEGETABLES, primarily, that we need in GREAT QUANTITY TO BE OUR HEALTHIEST, FITTEST, AND BEST!

Quite frankly, it is difficult to follow the Paleo diet... if you do it without a daily Paleo Green Smoothie!  It’s almost impossible to get enough greens and veggies to make it really happen, like it did in primeval times when our ancestors would literally gather and chew these veggies, ALL DAY LONG!!

We don’t live like that today... but, we can accomplish the exact same thing, but even BETTER by putting our veggies into a Vitamix and blending them into an easily assimilable Paleo Smoothie that we can drink, easily and effortlessly.

And just why is this so great?

Because if we get all of these wonderful nutrients, in their natural form (not supplements!), from God-made veggies and fruits and pastured eggs and teas and butter and spices... WE ARE GIVING OUR BODIES EVERYTHING THEY NEED, AND HAVE BEEN LACKING, IN MOST CASES FOR YEARS AND YEARS!
When your body at last has all the nutrients it needs, it shuts off your appetite!

The reason you are probably constantly hungry is that your body needs nutrients to build, and maintain your body’s health and wellness!

If you give it nutrient poor food, like the Standard American SAD diet- it will say over and over and over again- I’m Hungry- EAT!

And, if you continue to give it man made food, i.e. CRAP; your body will STILL be hungry, although storing fat all over your body, and especially all over your FACE!

Besides the fact that their skin and hair look amazingly healthy and glowing, their face is WAY thinner, more defined, and without that BLOAT that is so typical of modern Americans- THEY ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE MODELS!

Cheekbones show up, the double chin disappears, and even wrinkles seem to be gone...

Make your own supplements!

I have been listening, via a great podcast superhuman radio on my iPhone to Dr. Thomas Levy.  The good doctor, who is not any longer in lock-step with his professional colleagues, has had great success in treating many modern diseases with Vitamin C!  (Remember Linus Pauling?  He was castigated, similarly to Robert Atkins of the low carb diet fame, by the medical establishment).

It turns out that vitamin C, which is produced by virtually ALL other animals, is NOT produced by humans.  Common knowledge, really, but the implications to health are very important:  The RDA for vitamin C might prevent scurvy; but it is far too low to prevent "scurvy of the heart", or "scurvy of the bones", or other bodily systems.

The bottom line is that Vitamin C is FAR more important for us than the current medical system believes, or is willing to recommend.  The implications for heart disease, and cancer, to name only two, are more important than we might ever believe- not to mention simply optimizing our health.


So, what is the bottom line?

I don't think it is necessary, or even optimal to take massive amounts of supplements. After all, that is why they are called supplements!  


"But Jay, but Jay!" I hear you saying.  "Supplements are so expensive!"


Yes, indeed they are, and many (most!) are totally synthetic, and not really good for human consumption...

So I say MAKE YOUR OWN SUPPLEMENTS!

Just start with a Vitamix blender...

Actually, many variations are possible- and are to be encouraged!  Go heavy on the vitamin C- and don't think only citrus- did you know that red peppers are much higher in vitamin C than oranges??

So, my point, again is this: MAKE YOUR OWN SUPPLEMENTS!  It's way easier to take a Vitamix, and blend together real foods, and drink them throughout your day1  I mean, cooking foods is great, cooking real foods like veggies and meats and fruits and spices and seafood!  

Nothing better!  EXCEPT, perhaps:

Blending them up, RAW, along with every single thing your body needs in one, easily assimilable "package" that is not only easy to transport and consume, but that gives your body (and mind!) everything they need to thrive and gain optimum health!!

I don't know about you, but I would do all I could to avoid "scurvies"- in other words modern, sub-standard food deficiencies that will render me (and you too of course) sickly, be-deviled with "mind fog", and prone to all of the diseases of modern civilization- cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, arthritis, the list goes on and on....

Just choose health!  It's easy, too- actually even easier than the fast foods that are leading the bulk of us to our sick, weak, pain-filled future- 

Making a daily smoothie is about as easy as it gets, one we "get it" and make the transition!  

If you have bad teeth, skin, or hair...

THIS IS THE "INDICATOR LIGHT" OF YOUR BODY:

This means that your body is "breaking down"!    If you don't address the cause; i.e. your sub-standard diet that is not providing your body enough nutrients, you are setting yourself up for all of the diseases of modern civilization:  ( listed above, but only partially...)

If your car was flashing "check oil" you would jump on it!!

Your body's indicator lights are SO much MORE important!

Do NOT ignore them!  

Start making your own supplements!!
